By Dan Ambrose: 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) says he’s going to throw a lot of punches on May 21st against World Boxing Council WBC) light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. It would be a huge chance for Hopkins if he does opt to fight like this in his rematch with Pascal, because in his last fight with Pascal in December, Hopkins didn’t throw a lot of punches and did a lot of wrestling and holding on the inside after throwing shots.
Hopkins-Pascal
46-year-old Hopkins hoping to beat Foreman’s record with a win over Pascal
By Dan Ambrose: 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) is hoping to go down in the record books with a win over World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) on May 21st at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Hopkins, if he wins, will be the oldest fighter to ever win a major world title in boxing. The old record is George Foreman, who was a ripe 45 when he knocked out IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Michael Moorer in 1994.
Hopkins vs. Pascal: If Jean gets off to a quick start again, he should earn another draw
By Dan Ambrose: I see the second fight between 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 Ko’s) and WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) as one that could very well end up as another draw or end with a controversial decision that leaves few boxing fans happy. The two fighters will be going at it on May 21st at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The last time they fought in December 2010, Pascal got off to a fast start in the first half of the bout but then ran out of gas in the second half of the fight and had to settle for a 12 round draw.
Hopkins: Pascal is a four round fighter
By Dan Ambrose: 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) and WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) argued viciosly with one another on HBO’s Face off with Max Kellerman recently. Hopkins, 46, stuck to a major theme throughout the televised meeting by saying Pascal is a “Four round fighter.” The two fighters fought to a 12 round draw last December. Pascal knocked Hopkins down twice in that fight and appeared to win enough rounds to make it at least a draw.
Pascal has to set a fast pace and make Hopkins look his age
By Dan Ambrose: Last time out WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) failed to fight smart and push the fight at the 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) in their 12 round draw last December. Pascal seemed to be under the mistaken impression that he could pick his spots and basically pot shot Hopkins and beat him in the same way that Pascal beat Chad Dawson.
Hopkins vs. Pascal: Hopefully they get it right this time
By Dan Ambrose: Next month boxing fans will have to sit through another fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal 26-1-1, 16 KO’s) and 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) in their rematch at the Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Hopkins says don’t be surprised if Pascal gets hurt in the ring on 5/21
By Dan Ambrose: 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins is livid with his treatment by WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal at their recent press conference this week to announce their rematch on May 21st in Montreal, Canada.
Hopkins vs. Pascal: Jean has to tire Bernard out if he wants to win
By Dan Ambrose: What WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) failed to do in his fight against 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) last December was set a high pace to tire out Hopkins and get him clinching and flopping around to try and get rest breaks. Instead of seeing Hopkins as an old car that can’t go over a certain speed, Pascal let Hopkins coast and rest in their fight by staying on the outside and throwing only rare pot shots all night.
Pascal: Hopkins has spent his career complaining
By Dan Ambrose: WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) expects 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) to be complaining long and hard after they meet up for their rematch on May 21st at a still to be determined location. Pascal and Hopkins fought last year in December with the fight being ruled a 12 round majority draw. Hopkins felt he should have won the fight, but getting knocked down twice didn’t help his case with the judges.
Hopkins vs. Pascal II to take place on 5/21, possibly in Quebec
By Dan Ambrose: 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) has been given his way by the WBC, who are forcing World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KO’s) fight an immediate rematch with Hopkins after fighting to a 12 round draw with him last December. Hopkins was dropped twice in the fight, but many boxing fans felt he had done enough to get the win.
