Harrison vs. Price

McKenna (McJack): British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) made quick work of the hapless Audley Harrison (28-6, 21 KO’s) on Saturday night, taking just 80 seconds to dispose of his latest heavyweight victim. Harrison, who as usual talked a good fight ahead of time, proved to be anything but a real challenge for Price. The fight or the lack thereof, bore striking similarities to Audley’s non-performance against then WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in November 2010.

In the Haye fight, Harrison had a look of fear and panic on his face and offered no resistance to the “Hayemaker” who stopped Audley in the 3rd round. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) withheld a portion of Harrison’s purse in the Haye fight until an investigation could be held. The BBBC later relented and gave Audley his entire share of the purse.

By William Mackay: Audley Harrison (28-6, 21 KO’s) suffered a broken nose while in the process of getting knocked out quickly in the 1st round last Saturday night against British heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s). Harrison, 40, now is trying to figure out what to do with what’s left of his 11 year pro career. Harrison has lost two out of his last three fights, and he’s never really been a factor on the world stage.

Harrison had promised that he was going to come out aggressively against Price last Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. Unfortunately, instead of coming out aggressively and throwing punches, Harrison stood there straight up like a flagpole waiting for an opening to present itself.

In 80 seconds Audley’s dreams of any sort of redemption for himself ended in dramatic fashion. David Price who is without a doubt one of the hottest prospects on the heavyweight scene made a statement of intent; he is an upcoming heavyweight boxer.

By Mark Calooke: Tonight David Price demonstrated why he is the most avoided heavyweight around. He obliterated Audley Harrison in quicker fashion than David Haye. I expect he will now find it even harder to get big fights. in effect he has told the world “fight me if you want to be put to sleep”.

The Klitschko Brother have predicted he will one day become heavyweight champion and Lennox Lewis has openly expressed his excitement at the prospect of Price’s future. I share the same feelings. He is the only man who can rejuvenate the tediously dull heavyweight scene.

By Scott Gilfoid: In a joke of a fight unbeaten British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) destroyed 40-year-old Audley Harrison (28-6, 21 KO’s) in one round on Saturday night at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom. Price hurt Harrison with a right that didn’t look all that powerful but it was enough to back Harrison up to the ropes. Price then rushed Harrison and flurried on him while he cringed against the ropes and then slid down on the canvas from the barrage.

Referee Howard John Foster then halted the mismatch a minute and a half into the fight.

By William Mackay: 40-year-old Audley Harrison (28-5, 21 KO’s) says he’s going to put in a good effort tonight win or lose against the young and undefeated British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (13-0, 11 KO’s) at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom. You can’t say Harrison’s career will be over if he loses, because his career has been sinking into the mire for ages now and one more loss won’t change much.

It’s pretty obvious that Price’s promoter Frank Maloney specifically picked out Harrison because of how poor he’s been fighting for the past five years. If he was fighting at the top of his game this fight likely wouldn’t be happening.

McKenna (McJack): It is doubtful if many boxing insiders give former Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison (28-5, 21 KO’S) much of a chance to defeat the rising star that is David Price (13-0, 11 KO’s). The current British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion at 6’8” is a fighter who is destined if all goes well to challenge the dominance of heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko in the next year or two. Price appears to have all the tools to take him to the very pinnacle of success in the heavyweight division.

For that reason those who are guiding Price at this early stage of his career need to tread lightly and carefully before exposing him to a fighter who has a real chance to derail him in his quest for a title shot. In picking Audley Harrison as Price’s next opponent his management team appears to have chosen an opponent who has very little chance of achieving victory when the two clash on Saturday night at the ECHO Arena in Liverpool.
