Image: I feel for Audley Harrison: Price victorious as Audley falls 1st roundBy Gari Jones: Originally built as Battle of the Olympians, David Price now W14, KO12, L0, D0 versus Audley Harrison W28, KO 21, L6, D0 the night ended in disaster for Audley Harrison.

In 80 seconds Audley’s dreams of any sort of redemption for himself ended in dramatic fashion. David Price who is without a doubt one of the hottest prospects on the heavyweight scene made a statement of intent; he is an upcoming heavyweight boxer. For the first 40 seconds the fight was very stagnant, just two men looking to establish some sort of rhythm for themselves. Price was jabbing lightly, tapping Audley’s glove until he landed a glancing jab on 50 seconds that did little of anything to Audley. Until on 67 seconds Price smacked Audley with a powerful right that sent him rocking to the ropes.

Audley was now trying to regain some composure but was being rocked by Price who smelled blood and victory in his grasp and didn’t let Audley breathe. Then 10 seconds later Price landed again with a powerful right hand that made the referee look in to see if Harrison was ok. Unfortunately he was not as a second later Price hit Audley with a powerful right hand that sent A-Force Harrison to the floor. The commentator’s shouting he’s out and the crowd cheering so loud because they loved what they what they were seeing.

I didn’t expect Harrison to win this fight, but for it to end like that I really felt for Audley Harrison. He collapsed to the floor like a man who had his dreams and hopes finally taken from him. What a sad end to what could have been a promising career.

Audley was unconscious and badly hurt, reports suggested he suffered a broken nose and possible broken eye socket, we’ll find out more in the week how bad he was hurt. When all was said and done, what truly made me sick were the pathetic chants of the crowd. Ignorant fans who were enjoying shouting WHO ARE YA, WHO ARE YA when a man was badly injured and laying out cold on the canvas.

Seeing Harrison like that I really felt for him, for a man who has had the courage to come back after severe adversity and one humiliation after the other, was made to look a sub standard human being. These people failed to recognize Audley still had the guts to step into the ring and be subjected to the kind of empty headed stupidity he was given last night. At least Audley did something that many people don’t do anymore “he never gave up on his dreams”.

If you don’t mind this I wish to say this. I say F*** YOU to all of the so called, empty headed fans of boxing. To those of you who loved seeing a man lying out cold and hurt on the canvas? SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. Despite the fact Audley has braved the criticism and came to give you all a night to enjoy, he got treated like a piece of used toilet roll once he was on the floor and I didn’t like that one bit. I personally don’t want to see any fighter get hurt whether I like them or not, it takes courage to lace up a glove and step in the ring and Audley (love him or hate him) had that in abundance.

Not taking anything away from David Price he wanted to make a statement tonight and he did, but he wanted to do it in a way that would allow him to show the world he could box and be a serious contender to the Heavyweight division. It’s amazing to look at Price’s record and see that he has wins over Sexton, McDermott and Audley Harrison all coming by way of Knockout. Big things are now expected of Price in the coming year, already Frank Maloney is offering apparently Tyson Fury £500,000 to fight Ali price (source Sky Sports). I don’t know if this fight could be made, because if it was I reckon Price’s punching power would seriously expose Tyson’s already suspect chin. I can even see the banner for it, TWO GIANTS COLLIDE.

Good luck to Audley in the future; this is not what I wanted for him at all. Regardless of whether he made himself a target for the public, my point through this entire article is to get people to acknowledge the fact he at least had the guts and fortitude to keep on trying to realize a dream, even if it made him a joke.

To finish up I reckon a big fight between Wladimir v Price is likely next Autumn.
