Crawford-Jean averages 1.071M viewers on HBO; Golovkin-Lemieux 797K average in replay

crawford5By Dan Ambrose: In a sign that WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) might not be a good option for Manny Pacquiao’s April 9th fight, Crawford’s fight last Saturday against #6 WBO Dierry Jean (29-2, 20 KOs) averaged only 1.071 million with a peak of 1.2 million on HBO Championship Boxing, according to Dan Rafael.

The Crawford vs. Jean fight did only slightly better than the replay of the Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux fight on HBO, which brought in an average of 797,000 viewers with a peak of 1 million. The co-feature replay of Roman Gonzalez vs. Brian Viloria averaged 505,000 with a peak of 685,000.

Triple G’s Numbers 150k and Perfectly fine

1-GolovkinLemieux_HoganphotosBy Rick Jones III: The last 20 years boxing has been held by it’s throat by Floyd Mayweather Jr. The boxer that considers himself “The Greatest Of All Time,” had a real tight grip on the sport of boxing. The boxer then retired as of Sep 12th of 2015, which I have marked on my calendar the day boxing was reborn and possibly the best thing that has happen for the professional sport.

The pay-per-view numbers finally came out for the Gennady Golovkin – David Lemieux fight, which hit a little bit over 150,000 buys on HBO last Saturday night. So does that mean that the famous Triple G is not worthy of the throne Mayweather Jr. left behind? No…HELL NO! What this means is that the sport of boxing is actually level and balanced.

It’s Official! Golovkin-Lemieux brings in 150,000 PPV buys

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Chris Williams: The pay-per-view numbers are officially in for last Saturday’s fight between IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs), and the numbers aren’t far off the projections.

According to ESPN.com, the Golovkin-Lemieux fight brought in just a little over 150,000 pay-per-view buys on HBO from Madison Square Garden in New York. Golovkin won the fight by an 8th round knockout in a non-competitive fight. The good news is that the PPV money is over $8 million. Just how much of that will go to Golovkin and Lemieux is unclear.

Thoughts on GGG

1-GolovkinLemieux_Hoganphotos1By Reveriano: Last Saturday night’s Gennady Golovkin vs David Lemieux fight was a real bargain in my opinion. For $50 dollars you were able to watch some great action packed fights. But the dust has settled and it is time for us so called commentators to give our opinion. My opinion being that this was a great fight that shows some of the serious problems in the industry.

I would like to first state that I find it incredible that some people are arguing or stating that the fight was boring. That Golovkin didn’t come out to fight and under-performed. I find this incredible because Golovkin showed that defensive styles are not the only way to control and box an opponent out.

Golovkin-Lemieux said to be 125,000 PPV buys on HBO

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Tim Fletcher: It looks like last Saturday night’s clash between IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and IBF 160lb champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) brought in a disappointing 125,000 pay-per-view buys on HBO, according to the latest boxing news. The reports from industry sources haven’t been confirmed officially by Lemieux’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions or Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2.

It’s going to be interesting now to see if Golden Boy and K2 Promotions will bother releasing the PPV totals to the boxing public. I could see where they might not want to because it would hurt both of their fighters. Golovkin needs his numbers to be high so that he can get the other fighters to face him on PPV.

Golovkin: The Oblitermatron

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy G Bell: Once again IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) proved he is the premiere boxer at 160 last Saturday in beating Lemieux by an 8th round TKO at Madison Square Garden. Much respect must go out to IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) who did not have to take this fight, and like the other so called champions at 160, could have taken easier fights and milked the title for all the cash he could handle. Lemieux actually caused Gennady Golovkin, to box, which he does, much to my surprise, extremely well.

If you saw the fight, one has to wonder, just what was Lemieux’s game plan going in? From interviews with Lemieux, I fully expected, he would be charging in, head down, swinging for the fences, damn the torpedoes.

Should Golovkin been disqualified for hitting Lemieux while he was down?

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Scott Gilfoid: If you’ve seen IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s recent fight against former IBF 160lb champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) last Saturday night, you’ve have noticed that Golovkin nailed Lemieux with a right hand to the head in the 5th round after he had been knocked to the canvas from a left hand body shot.

Lemieux was clearly on the canvas, doubled over with a look of pain in his face when Golovkin threw a right hand coup de grace while he was down. The referee Steve Willis didn’t even lift a finger to take a point off or disqualify Golovkin from the fight. I’m just saying. Golovkin should have been booted for that move. I mean, it reminded me of how Arthur Abraham teed off on the talented Andre Dirrell in their fight in 2010 after Dirrell had slipped on the wet canvas.

Hopkins wants to see how Lemieux bounces back from loss

Boxing: Golovkin vs Lemieux(Credit: Ed Mulholland/K2 Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: Bernard Hopkins of Golden Boy Promotions says he’s interested in seeing how his fighter former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) bounces back from his 8th round knockout loss he suffered last Saturday night at the hands of the highly killed Kazakhstan knockout artist IBO/WBA middleweight champ Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs).

Hopkins notes that the 26-year-old Lemieux really didn’t take that bad of a beating by Golovkin, and he’s thankful for that. Hopkins thinks the fight could have gone another two more rounds, and he would have wanted to see it go that far to make sure that Lemieux was given every chance he could get in winning the fight.

Hopkins criticizes Lemieux’s hairdo and performance against Golovkin

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: Bernard Hopkins thinks his Golden Boy Promotions fighter David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) came into his title unification fight with IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) with some glaring flaws in his game that may ultimately cost him the fight at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Hopkins thinks it was a mistake for Lemieux to wear his hair long for the fight, because it kept flopping into his face all during the 12 rounds of action. Hopkins says he would have personally cut all of his hair off rather than go into the fight with hair that was going every which way each time Lemieux would get hit.
