The enabling of Gennady Golovkin has to stop Part 2

golovkin200By Jermill Pennington: I wrote an article yesterday, and as usual I woke up the next morning and went through the comment section of the article. I always look forward to seeing what fans have to say about my perspective on things, good or bad.

To make a short story even shorter, the article I wrote was about Gennady Golovkin and his lack of competitive opposition thus far in his career. I also made point of how I believe his supporters are to blame for the lack of noteworthy fighters on his resume.

Is Gennady Golovkin wasting his best years just waiting?

golovkin200By Gerardo Granados: Next Saturday April 23 at the Forum Inglewood, California, USA; the avoided and undefeated WBA – IBF – IBO Middleweight Champion of the World Gennady Golovkin W34 (31)-L0-D0 will fight against the IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade W18 (12)-L0-D0. For GGG it could be his twenty second consecutive win by the way of knockout, the last time that Golovkin went to the distance was in June of 2008 when he defeated Amar Amari via unanimous decision.

GGG will also try to increase his impressive consecutive title defense winning streak to an unprecedented consecutive 16 wins by the way of knockout.

But, somehow 34 years old Gennady Golovkin, has been managed to fail to claim a spot in boxing as one of the top pay per view earners and also as the A side in all negotiations.
Golovkin stated to HBO that “Outside the ring, I am Gennady Golovkin, inside the ring, I’m GGG. I know my job”.

Golovkin: Canelo isn’t Mayweather

Image: Golovkin: Canelo isn't MayweatherBy Patrick McHugh: Gennady Golovkin reminded the media on Thursday that he has no intentions whatsoever in placating WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) by coming down to 155lbs to fight him at a catch-weight of 155lbs in September of this year. Golovkin says he’d move down to 154 for a superstar like Floyd Mayweather Jr., but not for a fighter like Canelo.

Golovkin’s comment basically means there won’t be a fight between him and Canelo in 2016. Golovkin may get a hold of Canelo’s world title by virtue of the WBC stripping him for failing to fight Golovkin, but it’s not as if the Kazakhstan fighter is coming out ahead by picking up the WBC title without fighting Canelo.

Dominic Wade: I might break Golovkin’s face

wade555By Dan Ambrose: Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) is a huge 50:1 underdog going into his fight this Saturday night against IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in their HBO televised fight.

Wade doesn’t buy into all the hype about Golovkin. He feels that he’s going to go in there and beat him soundly, Indeed, Wade thinks he might even break Golovkin’s face on Saturday with his big power punches.

Wade says he sized Golovkin up when the two of them had a face off, and he says he’s not much bigger than him, and that he doesn’t have arm length that he possesses.

The Enabling of Gennady Golovkin has to stop

golovkinBy Jermill Pennington: I was listening to one of my favorite podcast last night (The Tale of the Tape) and one of the guys said something to the effect of “Triple G gets a “get out of jail card” until someone grows a pair and steps up to fight him.’’

While part of that statement is factual, I feel Golovkin has been given a pass on his opposition thus far. People make this assertion as if who Golovkin fights has nothing to do with him. I find that notion a bit mind-boggling as fans have always seemed to have high expectation of top level fighters. In the case of Golovkin, many seem to be quite content with him fighting a guy like Dominic Wade whom even the most well – informed fan has no idea who he is.

Golovkin vs. Wade: Dominic Wade – It’s going to be a war against Golovkin!

YouTube video

By Allan Fox: Undefeated challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) is seen by many fans to be the sacrificial lamb for Saturday’s fight against IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) for their fight on HBO. Wade doesn’t see it that way. He thinks the fight is going to be a war and he’s giving himself a great chance of winning the fight against the older fighter Golovkin.

Dominic Wade: I will be the one that fights Canelo, not Golovkin

YouTube video

By Jeff Aranow: Challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) sees a lot of holes in IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s game that he plans on taking advantage of this Saturday night. Wade sees nothing special in Golovkin that he feels he can’t beat, and he plans wrecking Golovkin’s dreams of fighting WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez later this year for his title.

Golovkin: “If Canelo’s not ready now, bring my belt”

gggBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) says he’s not going to give WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) the catch-weight handicap that he and his management have been talking about wanting in order to fight Golovkin.

There will not be a catch-weight in a fight between them, says Golovkin. If the two of them are going to fight, it’s going to have to be at the full weight of 160 for the middleweight division.

Golovkin says that Canelo needs to bring him his WBC belt and give it to him if he’s not ready to fight him later this year.
