Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade a done deal for 4/23 on HBO

golovkin44By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is set to go to defend his IBF title against mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum, in Inglewood, California.

Granted, it’s not a great fight or even a good fight. It’s arguably a big step down from Golovkin’s last opponent David Lemieux and even a step down from his fight against Willie Monroe Jr. Golovkin has no choice in the matter though, because the International Boxing Federation came up with their oddball ratings of putting the 25-year-old Wade at No.3, and he got the position after #1 IBF Tureano Johnson suffered a shoulder injury training and couldn’t take the fight with Golovkin.

Golovkin: I need to get back in the ring for my fans

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) says he needs to get back in action for his fans. GGG is scheduled to fight #3 IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) in two months from now on April 23 at the Forum, in Inglewood, California.

The fight against the 25-year-old serves two purposes. First of all, it’s a mandatory defense of Golovkin’s IBF belt that he needs to take care of if he wants to continue to be the International Boxing Federation 160lb champion.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade agreed to for April 23

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s next fight against #3 IBF, #7 WBC, #8 WBA, #15 WBO Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) has been agreed to and also approved by HBO for April 23, according to Dan Rafael. The Golovkin-Wade fight will likely be staged at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

It’s obviously not a fight that Golovkin and his promoters at K2 wanted. They were hoping to get a bigger fight against the likes of Chris Eubank Jr. or Billy Joe Saunders. However, the International Boxing Federation took their ability to choose away when they ordered Golovkin to face Wade, the replacement mandatory challenger.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade is better fight than Canelo-Khan

Image: Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade is better fight than Canelo-KhanBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is expected to face unbeaten #3 IBF Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The fight hasn’t been announced as of yet by Golovkin’s promoters at K2, but Wade, 25, is said to be the likely opponent for Golovkin’s interim fight on 4/23 on HBO.

While Golovkin will be facing the tough as nails Wade, WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) has pooled from the welterweight division to find Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs), who will be forced to move up in weight two divisions to face Canelo at a catch-weight of 155lbs.

Soliman robbed in Wade fight

Image: Soliman robbed in Wade fight(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: In a good old fashioned robbery, #5 IBF Sam Soliman (44-13, 18 KOs) found himself on the receiving end of a highly controversial 10 round last Friday night at the Little Creek Casino Resort, in Shelton, Washington, USA. Referee Jack Reiss appeared to have a really bad day at the office.

Reiss blew a call in the 4th round when Wade shoved Soliman to the canvas. Reiss ruled it a knockdown when it was a clear shove to the canvas. Instant replays showed that Reiss totally blew the call. Additionally, Reiss failed to take points off from #14 WBC Wade for body slamming Soliman to the canvas on two separate occasions.
