By Jeff Aranow: Adrien “The Problem” Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) has a very important fight tonight against one of the better fighters he’s faced lately in Adrian “Tigre” Granados (18-4-2, 12KOs) on Showtime Championship Boxing the Cintas Center, Cincinnati, Ohio. Broner needs to win and look good in doing so. He has a fighter that he should beat.

Granados is just a contender, and not someone that is going anywhere in the 140lb division.

Lamont Peterson challenges David Avanesyan on Feb. 18

Image: Lamont Peterson challenges David Avanesyan on Feb. 18

By Jeff Aranow: Former IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (24-3-1, 17 KOs) will be emerging from a long 16 month layoff next month when he challenges WBA World interim welterweight champion David Avanesyan (22-1-1, 11 KOs) on February 18 on the undercard of the Adrian Broner vs. Adrian Granados card at the Cintas Center at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

Peterson, 33, hasn’t done much to be fighting for a world title, even an interim title. That’s kind of disappointing that Peterson will be fighting for a title rather than someone a little more active with their boxing careers. The Avanesyan-Peterson fight will be the co-feature bout on the Broner vs. Granados card. It’ll be televised by Showtime.

Mosley wants Cotto, Mayweather, Pacquiao or Marquez

1-mosley (2)

By Dan Ambrose: Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 9 KOs) will be fighting WBA interim welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) this Saturday night in an important match to determine an opponent for the winner of the June 25 fight between WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman and Shawn Porter.

If victorious on Saturday against Avanesyan, Mosley, 44, says he won’t fight Porter if he defeats Thurman. Mosley and Porter are good friends and have worked with one another frequently in the past.

Mosley says he will fight Thurman if he gets past Porter because he’s never worked with Thurman before, However, the guys that Mosley says he wants after the Avanesyan fight is Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.

WBA: Mosley-Avanesyan winner gets Thurman vs. Porter winner

mosley76

By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday’s fight between Shane Mosley (49-9-1 41 KOs) and interim WBA welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) will be facing the winner of the Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter fight, according to the World Boxing Association. That’s good for the Mosley- Avanesyan winner and potentially a good thing for the Porter vs. Thurman winner if they’re looking for a lesser threat.

That’s not a knock on Mosley and Avanesyan, but neither of them look like solid fighters compared to some of the other top guys in the division. It’s a perfect situation for the Thurman-Porter winner because they’ll wind up with an opponent that will be little more than a stay busy fight for them rather than someone that has the talent to defeat them.

Shane Mosley vs. David Avanesyan this Saturday night

mosley76

By Jeff Aranow: #3 WBA Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 41 KOs) will riding his two-fight winning streak into his clash this Saturday night against interim WBA welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) in their fight at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The Mosley-Avanesyan fight will be televised on CBS Sports net. The start time is at 10:30 ET/7:30 PT.

This should be a tough fight for the 44-year-old Mosley, because he’s fighting one of the better welterweights in the division in 27-year-old Russian Avanesyan. Mosley hasn’t fought a fighter as good as Avanesyan since making his comeback last year. It’s going to be a tough test for Mosley because the last time he fought a good fighter in 2013, he was beaten by Anthony Mundine by a 7th round stoppage after his back froze up on him.

WBA orders Thurman-Porter winner to face Mosley- Avanesyan winner

mosleyBy Jeff Aranow: The World Boxing Association has ordered the winner of the June 25 fight between WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and “Showtime” Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) to face the winner of the May 28 fight between interim WBA welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) and #3 WBA Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 41 KOs).

If the winner of the Thurman vs. Porter fight had hopes of getting a bigger name for their next fight, they’re going to be pretty much handcuffed by having to fight the winner of the Mosley vs. Avanesyan fight due to the WBA ordering that.

Mosley used to be a big name at one time, but he’s now nearing 45, he clearly isn’t a huge name in the 147lb division among the younger fans of the sport.

Shane Mosley vs. David Avanesyan on May 28 in Glendale, Arizona

mosley5By Dan Ambrose: #3 WBA “Sugar” Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 41 KOs) will be facing #1 WBA Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) for the interim WBA welterweight title on May 28 on CBS Sports Net at the Gila river Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

Mosley hasn’t done much to deserve a fight for the interim WBA 147lb title other than beating 42-year-old Ricardo Mayorga in September 2015 in beating the overweight and ring rusty fighter by a 6th round knockout. In Mosley’s last fight, he stopped little known 2nd tier fighter Patrick Lopez by a 10th round knockout last December.
