Curtis Stevens to fight in the spring

stevens1By Allan Fox: Former world title challenger Curtis Stevens (27-5, 20 KOs) will reportedly be back inside the ring in the spring against an opponent still to be determined. Stevens, 30, hasn’t fought since losing to Hassan N’Dam in October 2014.

Stevens didn’t fight at all in 2015, which was a shame because it would have been good for him to resume his career to pick up some momentum to load up for another world title fight. In November 2013, Stevens was stopped by WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in the 8th round of a one-sided fight.

Stevens is still young, and powerful. He could easily cause the other top middleweights problems if he could get a fight against the likes of David Lemieux, Billy Joe Saunders, Daniel Jacobs and Peter Quillin.

Lemieux could face Monroe Jr. or Curtis Stevens in March

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) will be back in the ring two months from now in March, possibly against former world title challengers Curtis Stevens (27-5, 20 KOs) and/or Willie Monroe Jr. (19-2, 6 KOs), according to Dan Rafael. Both Stevens and Monroe were knocked out in the past by champion Gennady Golovkin.

Lemieux, 27, was stopped by Golovkin in the 8th round last October in a fight that was televised by HBO pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden in New York. Lemieux talked a good game ahead of time, but he failed to back up his talk in the ring. Indeed, Lemieux was timid in the fight and didn’t attack Golovkin the way he had said he was going to.

Weights: N’Dam 158.8, Stevens 158.2

stevens6By Allan Fox: Former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam (30-1, 18 KOs) weighed in at 158.8 pounds for his fight on Wednesday night against #3 WBC, #6 IBF, #6 WBO, #14 WBA Curtis Stevens (27-4, 20 KOs) for their scheduled 12 round fight at the Barker Hangar, in Santa Monica, California, USA.

Stevens, 29, weighed in at 158.2 pounds. The Stevens vs. N’Dam fight will be televised on ESPN2 at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT.

#7 IBF, #14 WBC, #15 WBA N’Dam is badly in need of a big win over Stevens to get himself pushed up the rankings because he’s still too far down in the rankings to get a title shot. N’Dam, 30, lost his WBO middleweight title in getting beaten by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision to Peter Quillin two years ago in October of 2012 in a fight in which N’Dam was knocked down six times by Quillin.

Will the chin checker get 1 more shot?

stevens1By Robert Earle Stanton: Former Member of “The Chin Checkers” – a gansta-esque duo that included super middleweight knockout artists Curtis “Showtime” Stevens and Jaidon “The Don” Condrington fell apart rather soon. “The Don” would be done in on Showtime by Allen Green and then on “The Contender” by Sakio Bika. Yet his counterpart, Curtis Stevens, seems to stick around.

Curtis “Showtime” Stevens 27 (20 KOs) with 4 losses took on an up and coming undefeated middleweight, 14 (10 KOs)-0 losses in Tureano Johnson on NBC recently. Stevens came in on his comeback from getting stopped by GGG aka Golovkin in early November 2013 on HBO,trying to make a comeback statement, as he KO’d Patrick Majeski in the first round earlier this year.

Curtis Stevens talks about GGG loss and fight with Majewski this Friday

stevens1By Ian Aldous: This Friday night, Curtis ‘Showtime’ Stevens (25-4) takes on Patrick ‘The Machine’ Majewski (21-2) in a ten-round main event, broadcast live on NBCSN. Curtis is looking to bounce back following his unsuccessful but credible world title challenge against Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin. Less than three months after that fight, he’s already looking to earn a win that will propel him back into championship contention. Last week Curtis took a few minutes to talk with me ahead of the fight.

When I asked Curtis about how he would review his performance against Golovkin after having a couple of months to reflect on it, he’s quite harsh on himself despite the fact he had more joy than most of the Golovkin opponents of recent years. “I give myself probably a five out of ten. I was thinking too much and didn’t let my hands go.”

Golovkin defeats Stevens; Perez and Afolabi both win

golovkin562By Jim Dower: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s) gave Curtis Stevens (25-4, 18 KO’s) a methodical beating on Saturday night in stopping him in an 8th round stoppage at Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York.

The fight was halted by Stevens’ corner after he’d taken an enormous amount of punishment in the 8th round. It was all one-way punishment with Stevens taking huge head and body shots while against the ropes for the entire round.

Golovkin knocked Stevens down with a hard left hook in the 2nd round. Stevens barely made it out of the round, as he was badly hurt when he got up at the count of 7. Golovkin stalked a timid looking Stevens in rounds 3 through 6 in punishing him with head and body shots.

Golovkin should have easy time against Stevens tonight

cid_3_973357841@web120202_mail_ne1_yahoo(Photo credit: HBO) By Allan Fox: The hardest part for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) is already over with him no longer having to endure listening to and reading the trash talking of his opponent Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) in getting ready for his fight tonight on HBO at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA. Golovkin is done having to listen to Stevens and he can now go out and get rid of him once and for all in what should be a very easy fight for him.

That’s not to say that the 28-year-old Stevens isn’t a dangerous foe, because he does have excellent power. But Stevens is very small at 5’7″, and he’s more of a fringe contender in the middleweight division than a true top contender. This isn’t going to be a difficult fight for Golovkin, as Stevens has lost each time he’s stepped in up in his career against good opposition. Stevens is more at home beating up 2nd and 3rd tier opposition than in facing the cream of the division in Golovkin.

Golovkin vs. Stevens official weights

001-Golovkin-and-Stevens-IMG_5108By Allan Fox: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) successfully weighed in for his fight tomorrow night against Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA. The 5’10 1/2″ Golovkin weighed in at 159.6 lbs., and the 5’7″ Stevens came in at 159.25 lbs.

This could be the most difficult title defense for Golovkin since his war against Kassim Ouma in June of 2011. That fight was by far the toughest of Golovkin’s career as he took a lot of punishment from Ouma until finally stopping him in the 10th round.
