Image: Margarito says he'll be ready to fight Cotto by JuneBy Jim Dower: Former IBF/WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) says he thinks he’ll be ready to fight in June against WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in a rematch. It’s unclear whether the fight can be made at that early date, because Cotto has a fight coming up next month against Ricardo Mayorga on March 12th. That fight could end up being a bloody one for Cotto. It would be a big ask for Cotto to hurry up and get ready for Margarito coming off that fight.

Cotto already fought Margarito in 2008, and lost the fight, suffering a horrible beating in the process of being stopped in the 11th round.

Image: Pacquiao to fight Cotto-Margarito winner next year?By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is talking about matching his number #1 fighter Manny Pacquiao up against the winner of the Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito rematch bout next year, according to examiner.com. I can’t think of a worse idea than seeing Pacquiao face Cotto or Margarito again. Pacquiao already soundly beat both of those fighters and even though it will have been a year or more by the time he would be fighting one of them again that would be too soon for me.

Arum wants to match Margarito against Cotto next in 2011

Image: Arum wants to match Margarito against Cotto next in 2011By Jason Kim: Two-time welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) took a terrible beating in losing a 12 round unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao last Saturday night at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. Fighting in front of 41,734 fans in the stadium, Margarito gave it his best shot against Pacquiao, but he was far too slow and wide open on defense to make much of a fight of it. Margarito did hurt Pacquiao with some body shots in the 6th, but he was unable to take advantage of it and spent the rest of the fight taking huge punishment.

Cotto-Margarito rematch won’t occur unless Antonio can get his boxing license back

By Jim Dower: If Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KO’s) and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum want a rematch with World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) to take place, it’s probably going to require that the 32-year-old Margarito get his boxing license back in California or least acquire a boxing license to fight in New York, New Jersey, Nevada or Texas. In an article at El Nuevo Dia, the 29-year-old Cotto said he was open to fighting Margarito again if the cash is there and if Margarito can get his backing license back.

Cotto needs to fight Margarito in Mexico

Image: Cotto needs to fight Margarito in MexicoBy Esteban Garduno: If former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) was smart, he would press Top Rank to line up a rematch against Antonio Margarito (37-6, 27 KO’s) in Mexico as soon as possible. Cotto, 29, has unfinished business against Margarito due to the brutal beating that Cotto received at the hands of Margarito in July 2008. Cotto’s face was nearly torn off by the powerful punches from the high octane punches from Margarito in that fight, and if Cotto wants to get peace of mind from that bout, he should try to get Margarito back in the ring to see if he can avenge that defeat.
