By Jeff Aranow: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez says his intention for rejecting the World Boxing Council’s commemorative belt for this Saturday’s fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has nothing to do with him wanting to reject the Indian craft of the belt, but rather because he wants nothing to do with the WBC. Canelo, 26, says there are “business interests” behind the WBC’s belt that they wanted to be on the line for this Saturday’s fight. The belt isn’t a championship belt that the WBC would have available.

Both fighters were brief with their comments to the boxing media. Mostly, Canelo and Chavez Jr. posed for pictures and signed autographs. The fans were constantly screaming, “Canelo” and “Chavez” to try and get them to come over and sign autographs or post for photos for them.

By Jeff Aranow: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin would be open to fighting either Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in his next fight, says his promoter Tom Loeffler. They’re going to be sitting back and waiting for the outcome of the May 6th fight between Canelo and Chavez Jr. to see which of the two emerges as the winner. Loeffler says he would also very much like to make the Canelo-Golovkin fight this year if possible. Loeffler has been in contact with Canelo’s promoter Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions since last November in trying to make the fight.
