Image: Saul Alvarez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Analysis and Prediction

By Harry Rowland: This Saturday 6th May, Cinco de Mayo weekend, at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, Mexico’s two biggest boxing stars collide in this 164.5lb catchweight none title fight.

The announcement of this one caused some confusion in boxing circles for a number of reasons. Firstly that Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez 48-1-1 (34), has spent the last few years adamant he is a Light Middleweight, so he could not possibly contest Gennedy Golovkin for the undisputed Middleweight championship at 160lbs.

Image: Canelo vs. Chavez Jr: Does this fight break 1M PPV buys?

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) says his fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) will guarantee fireworks on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight may not produce fireworks. It might not be a competitive affair if Chavez Jr’s last 4 performances are any guide. For me, what’s more interesting than talking about Canelo brag about the fight against a B-level fighter like Chavez Jr. is whether the fight will bring in a lot of pay-per-view buys on HBO.

The 31-year-old Chavez Jr. sees this fight as possibly the last chance to turn his career around. It’s not only an important fight for Chavez Jr., but it’s also an extremely important one for the 26-year-old Canelo, who hasn’t fought a good fighter in his prime since his controversial win over Erislandy Lara in 2014.
