Beltran: I’m the champion; that belt [WBO] is mine

By Scott Gilfoid: Just as I expected, Raymundo Beltran (28-6-1, 17 KO’s) was royally robbed tonight in traveling to Glasgow, Scotland to challenge Scottish fighter WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Didn’t I tell you all that Beltran would get robbed? I knew this was going to happen and it’s like a nightmare that it actually did.

Burns vs. Beltran tonight: Ricky’s time as the WBO champion is up

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) has had a nice little 3-fight reign at the World Boxing Organization 135 lb. champion after having the title given to him outside of the ring by the WBO back in 2011, but tonight that reign is going to end with Burns taking a terrible beating in front of his loving Scottish fans in the bitter cold of Glasgow.

Weights: Burns 134.3, Beltran 134.8

beltran223By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns 36-2, 11 KO’s) and challenger Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) weighed in today for their fight on Saturday night at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Both guys pretty much weighed nearly the same amount with Burns coming in at 134.3 lbs. compared to Beltran’s 134.8 lbs. Beltran looked more solid at the weight, and my guess he’ll bulk up a little more after he rehydrates.

Burns looks like a welterweight after he rehydrates, but I’m not sure that’s going to help him in this fight because Beltran will likely be a little heavier. This isn’t going to be one of Burns’ fights where he has a big size advantage over his hapless opponent.

Hearn wants Burns vs. Miguel Vazquez after Beltran fight

burns7575By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns promoter Eddie Hearn is like a dog that won’t let go of a bone once he’s got it in his mouth. Hearn really wants a unification match between Burns and IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (33-3, 13 KO’s), and Hearn still seems to want the fight even though Vazquez reportedly priced himself out last time Hearn tried to put a fight together between him and Burns.

The thing is Burns has a fight coming up in 2 weeks against #6 WBO, Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s), and it might be a little pointless for Hearn to be dreaming about unification bouts for Burns when he might get spanked by Beltran. You have to remember Beltran recently beat a fighter better than Burns in Henry Lundy last year in July, Lundy is a much superior fighter than Burns.

Hearn wants Ricky Burns to fight unification bout after Beltran fight

hearn444By Scott Gilfoid: HBO and Top Rank would like to see WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) to face his #1 WBO challenger Terence Crawford (21-0, 16 KO’s) if Burns gets past his fight next month on September 7th against #6 WBO Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

However, Hearn is cool to the idea of Burns fighting the unbeaten and highly hyped Crawford, and Hearn doesn’t see Burns vs. Crawford as a big fight. Instead, Hearn would rather have Burns fight one of the lightweight champions Miguel Vazquez, Richard Abril and the eventual WBC lightweight champion when and if the current WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner gives up his title.

Pacquiao picks Beltran to beat Ricky Burns

beltran1By Scott Gilfoid: Manny Pacquiao is picking Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) to beat WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) in their fight next month on September 7th at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Pacquiao knows how talented the 32-year-old Beltran is because he’s been his sparring partner, and the two have battled it more numerous times with Beltran giving as good as he gets.

Pacquiao told WealthTV “I believe Beltran will make [take] it. He is a nice guy, a good boxer and good luck to him. Hopefully he can make it.”

Forget the nice guy stuff; Beltran is like a relentless lion in the ring. He doesn’t stop coming forward even for an instant, and no matter how good your boxing skills are, he’s going to force you into a war.

Arum wants Burns vs. Beltran winner to face Terence Crawford at MSG

arum55By Scott Gilfoid: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum wants to match the winner of the September 7th fight between WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) and challenger Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) against the #1 WBO challenger Terence Crawford (21-0, 16 KO’s) at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Arum sees the Beltran-Burns fight as a toss-up fight, and he really likes his guy Beltran in this fight. The main advantage Arum sees Burns having in this fight is that it’ll be taking place in Burns’ home country of Scotland.

Arum said to Wealth TV “I think this is a 50-50 fight. There’s an advantage of Ricky Burns fighting on his home turf, but I have a guy that believes in himself in Beltran.

Hearn wants Ricky Burns to fight a unification bout after Beltran

burns433By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s), says he wants to put the 30-year-old Burns in a unification bout after he takes care of his scheduled September 7th title defense against #6 WBO Raymundo Belt (28-6, 17 KO’s) at the Scottish exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland.

Hearn had been talking about matching Burns against his #1 WBO challenger Terence Crawford in a fight that he wants to take place in Glasgow. However, it looks like Hearn has either seen Crawford and realized that it’s no-win situation for Burns, or he might have just been name dropping to get some of the attention from American boxing fans for Burns.
