burns453By Scott Gilfoid: The May 9th fight between former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa (24-0-1, 18 KOs) and former two division world champion Ricky Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs) will be taking place at the State Farm Arena, in Hidalgo, Texas, USA. No titles will be on the line for the fight. Figueroa is now the WBC lightweight Champion in Recess.

It was already known that the fight would take place in Houston, but the actual venue was still undecided until today. This is really a do-or-die fight for Burns, as he’s lost two out of his last three fights in the last two years. Burns will be turning 32 on April 13th, and he’s obviously not getting any younger.

Ricky Burns faces tough test against Omar Figueroa on May 9th in Texas

burns8oBy Scott Gilfoid: In what has to be seen as a last ditch effort to try and revive his career, former two division world champion Ricky Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs) will be back in the ring in the next two months to face former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa Jr (24-0-1, 18 KOs) on May 9th in a fight that will be taking place at a still to be determined venue in Texas in the United States.

The fight will be televised on CBS as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series. Obviously there won’t be any titles on the line, as Burns has lost two out of his last three fights, and Figueroa has been declared WBC Champion in Recess for his WBC lightweight title by the World Boxing Council.

burns4534By Scott Gilfoid: After having lost two out of his last three fights, former two division world champion Ricky Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs) is getting another chance to prove himself as still being a relevant fighter when he faces former WBC lightweight strap holder Omar Figueroa Jr (24-0-1, 18 KOs) on May 9th at a still to be determined venue in San Antonio, Texas.

Burns, 31, is pretty excited about this fight, as he sees it as an opportunity to rejuvenate his sagging career. Burns is hoping he can beat the 25-year-old Figueroa to get back into the thick of things at 135.

There won’t be any world titles on the line, as both guys are out of the loop for the time being.

Figueroa is the WBC lightweight Champion in Recess after he suffered an injury in his recent life and death struggle against Daniel Estrada last August. Figueroa got the victory in stopping Estrada in the 9th, but Figueroa suffered a really bad cut over his left eye in the fight.

burns453By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Ricky Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs) has been talking a lot lately about a big announcement coming for his next fight. Supposedly, Burns was supposed to be fighting a big-named opponent. Well, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

Instead of Burns facing a big name, it looks like he’s going to be fighting former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa (24-0, 18 KOs), a fighter who some boxing fans saw as a paper champion before he was stripped of his title last November due to an injury he sustained in his harder than expected fight against Daniel Estrada last August.
