Figueroa not happy with Burns’ rabbit punches

Omar Figueroa vs Ricky BurnsBy Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa (25-0-1, 18 KOs) got the job done last Saturday in beating Scotland’s Ricky Burns (37-5-1, 11 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision, but he took a lot of punches to the back of the head all night long from the 32-year-old Burns in their fight at the State Farm Arena, in Hidalgo, Texas, USA.

Figueroa said he paid Burns back by hitting him in the back of his head from time to time, but it still ended up to be a grueling fight for him. Figueroa got the decision by the scores of 116-110, 116-110 and 117-109.

Burns complains about Figueroa’s holding

Omar Figueroa vs Ricky BurnsBy Scott Gilfoid: British lightweight Ricky Burns (37-5-1, 11 KOs) ruined his chance of winning tonight against Omar Figueroa (25-0-1, 18 KOs) by holding too frequently and winding up getting docked twice by the referee in losing by a 12 round unanimous decision on Premier Boxing Champions on CBS from the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

Burns, 32, complained after the fight that Figueroa had held as much as he did, and that was the reason why he held him as much as he did. But it’s pretty clear that Burns couldn’t handle the fire power of from Figueroa and needed to resort to clinching for him to survive the full 12 rounds.

McGuigan sees Ricky Burns with tough fight against Figueroa tonight

Omar Figueroa and Ricky BurnsBy Scott Gilfoid: Barry McGuigan has his doubts whether former two division world champion Ricky Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs) will be able to pull off an upset tonight in his fight at light welterweight against the young 25-year-old former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa (24-0-1, 18 KOs) on CBS on Premier Boxing Champions at the State Farm Arena, in Hidalgo, Texas, USA.

Burns, 32, is the wrong age, McGuigan says, to be facing a young fighter like Figueroa. It’s the wrong country for the fight as well because Burns will be traveling outside of the friendly confines of Scotland to face Figueroa in his home state of Texas in the United States.

Burns: People think I’m just an opponent for Figueroa

Omar Figueroa and Ricky BurnsBy Scott Gilfoid: Scotland native Ricky Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs) is all bent out of shape that he’s seen as the sacrificial lamb for Saturday’s fight against former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa (24-0-1, 18 KOs) in their fight at the State Farm Arena, in Hidalgo, Texas, USA.

The 32-year-old Burns wants fans to know that he’s coming to beat the 25-year-old Figueroa on Saturday and pull off a big upset. Burns has lost two out of his last three fights, and looked awful in every sense of the word. Just how he plans on beating a talent like Figueroa is anyone’s guess.

Ricky Burns looking forward to Omar Figueroa fight this Saturday

burns55By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Ricky Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs) has a do or die fight this Saturday night against former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa (24-0-1, 18 KOs) on CBS from the State Farm Arena, in Hidalgo, Texas, USA. Although the 32-year-old Burns probably won’t admit that his career is on the brink of implosion after two losses in his last three fights, it’s the reality of the situation.

Burns’ career is really tanking since his controversial 12 round draw against Raymundo Beltran in September 2013. Beltran gave Burns a royal pounding, breaking his jaw and just battering him unmercifully for 12 rounds.

Burns-Figueroa only 18 days away

burns8oBy Scott Gilfoid: 32-year-old former two division world champion Ricky Burns (37-4-1, 11 KOs) will be back inside the ring 18 days from now against former WBC lightweight champion Omar Figueroa Jr. (24-0-1, 18 KOs) on May 9th at the State Farm Arena, in Hidalgo, Texas, USA.

This is a crossroads fight for Burns, as he’s lost two out of his last three fights and he’s looked absolutely terrible. Burns went from being one of the best fighters in the lightweight division to being a fringe level guy almost overnight. One second he’s beating the likes of Jose Gonzalez and then next he’s losing to some obscure bottom dweller named Dejan Zlaticanin.
