By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) has got a lot of hard work in store for him next Saturday night in trying to retain his IBF welterweight title against Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) on May 27. Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn tried to talk some sense into him by suggesting that the 31-year-old Brook vacate his IBF 147 lb. title and move up to 154 and try his hands at fighting in the junior middleweight division.
Brook vs. Spence
Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence Jr. next Saturday
By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook is nearing the moment of truth against unbeaten 2012 U.S Olympian Errol Spence Jr. The two welterweights will be facing each other next Saturday night on May 27 at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England. This will be the first time that Brook has attested his surgically repaired right eye in the heat of battle.
Davis-Walsh & Brook-Spence: Hope or Hype?
By Gav Duthie: One boxing name has popped up a couple of times in articles this week that I had not thought of in a while, Jeff Lacy. ‘Left Hook’ Lacy last fought in 2015 finishing with a modest boxing record of 27-6 (18). In 2006 however he was ‘The next big thing’. He was 21-0 (17) and heading over to the UK to smash the overconfident, over-hyped and overrated Joe Calzaghe, or so we were told. Lacy was a big favorite much like Gervonta Davis (v Liam Walsh) and Errol Spence Jne (v Kell Brook). Calzaghe dominated Lacy over 12 rounds and the great hope was never the same since. Frank Warren has compared the Davis situation to this
Brook-Spence Jr: Howard John Foster to referee fight
By Scott Gilfoid: In 8 days from now, Errol Spence Jr. will be fighting IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook for his IBF 147 pound strap with referee Howard John Foster the third man in the ring on the night on May 27. This could be a good thing or a bad thing for this fight. It all depends on what kind of night Foster is having. Foster was a tad quick on the stoppage of the first Carl Froch vs. George Groves fight on November 23, 2013.
Brook: Khan can’t save Spence
By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook is kind of bent out of shape because Amir Khan has let Errol Spence Jr. use his boxing gym in the UK in getting ready for his fight with Brook on May 27 at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England. Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) thinks that Khan wants Spence to beat him for some reason.
Brook ready for Spence, says GGG fight was a positive
By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook is coming into the Errol Spence Jr. fight on May 27 after having been badly injured in his 5th round stoppage loss to unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin last September. The loss to Golovkin was forced because of a broken eye socket that Brook suffered earlier in the fight.
Spence: I’m bringing Brook’s belt back home
By Scott Gilfoid: Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) is ready to take Kell Brook’s IBF welterweight strap from him on May 27 in front of his own fans at Bramall Lane, in Sheffield, England. Spence has done his homework in scouting out a number of Brook’s past fights, including his recent 5th round blowout loss to Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Spence has seen the flaws in Brook’s game that he feels he can take advantage of.
Brook rates Spence only third best at 147
By Scott Gilfoid: At Tuesday’s media conference call, a very confident sounding IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) said that he rates himself as the number one fighter at 147, Keith Thurman at number 2 and Errol Spence Jr. at number 3. Brook and Spence will be fighting on May 27 at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England. This is the moment of truth for Brook, who hasn’t fought a welterweight with the talent that Spence has during his career.
Brook: Spence can’t stand up to my power
By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) has lost an enormous amount of weight to get near the 147 pound fighting weight for his May 27 fight against Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) for their fight at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England. Despite taking off a ton of weight, Brook still has 6 stubborn pounds to get down to the limit.
Brook looking past Spence, wants Golovkin rematch
By Scott Gilfoid: You would think that with IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook facing arguably the most talented fighter in the 147 pound division in Errol Spence next, he would be worried about winning that fight, but Brook is now saying he wants to fight a rematch with middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs). Brook and Spence face each other on May 27 at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England. Spence is chomping at the bit, eager to get in there and smash Brook apart in front of his own fans. The crowd is expected to be at least 30,000 fans on the night.
