By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) has been talking about wanting to fight everybody lately but the guy that he’s supposed to be facing in #1 IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs).

The International Boxing Federation is supposed to be giving Brook and Spence their marching orders on October 26th. It’ll be interesting to see if the IBF followed through with that or if they’re going to wait awhile for Brook to finish licking his wounds from his 5th round knockout loss to the talented wrecking machine Gennady “GGG” Golovkin last September.

Kell Brook might quit against Errol Spence

By Scott Gilfoid: Dewey Cooper, the trainer for WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas, believes that unbeaten #1 IBF 147lb contender Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 Kos) will beat IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) if/when the two of them wind up facing each other in the near future. Cooper believes that Brook quit in his 5th round knockout loss to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 32 KOs) in their fight on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Cooper suspects that once the going gets tough against Spence, Brook will revert to form and quit once against mentally. Spence will then win the fight by knockout to take Brook’s IBF title.

Hearn says Brook-Spence is a possibility

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-58

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t ruling out a fight between his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) and #1 IBF mandatory challenger Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) in the near future once the 30-year-old Brook comes back from his broken right eye socket injury.

Hearn believes that Brook could make it back down to welterweight at 147, but he doesn’t believe that he’d be 100 percent at that weight due to him having a hard time making the 147lb limit. Hearn says that Brook’s next fight will be one of the following fighters: Spence, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Miguel Cotto or Amir Khan.

IBF to order Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence

By Scott Gilfoid: The International Boxing Federation chairman Lindsey Tucker plans on ordering IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-25 KOs) to begin negotiations with his IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) on October 26. Brook, 30, will have 30 days to negotiate the fight with the 26-year-old Spence before a purse big is ordered.

Brook has been talking about wanting to move up to 154 to campaign as a junior middleweight following his 5th round TKO loss to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin last month on September 10. Brook suffered a broken right eye socket in that fight, and he subsequently had eye surgery to repair the problem.
