Arum: If Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao on April 20th, great!

Image: Arum: If Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao on April 20th, great!By Chris Williams: Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, has already scheduled Pacquiao for April 20th after Pacquiao fights Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8th. Arum put the date in without thinking in terms of a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight. The fight is there for Mayweather Jr. if he wants to fight Pacquiao on that date, but if not then he’s out of luck.

Arum told the LA Times Nobody’s even talked to Mayweather. If Mayweather wants to fight, great. Manny will fight anybody. He [Pacquiao] doesn’t want to fight in May, and the last date available in Spring is April 20th.”

Arum books April 20th for Pacquiao; Mayweather fight now more unlikely than ever to happen

Image: Arum books April 20th for Pacquiao; Mayweather fight now more unlikely than ever to happenBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum sat down with him recently and the two decided that Pacquiao’s next fight after his December 8th bout with Juan Manuel Marquez will take place on April 20th next year. That sounds reasonable enough. However, the move by Arum will likely make it all but impossible to land a mega fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr, because Arum didn’t check with Mayweather to see if he would be okay that date.

Arum told the Manila Bulletin at Mb.com.ph “I have talked with Manny and we agreed to hold his fight [next year] on April 20th.”

Arum has four candidates for Bradley’s next fight: Guerrero, Peterson, Berto & Provodnikov

Image: Arum has four candidates for Bradley's next fight: Guerrero, Peterson, Berto & ProvodnikovBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is looking at four possible opponents to put in with his fighter WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley for his December 15th fight. These are the names that Arum is supposedly looking at: Robert Guerrero, Ruslan Provodnikov, Lamont Peterson and Andre Berto.

Let’s be honest about this. There’s really only two of those guys – Provodnikov and Guerrero – who are in the running for the Bradley fight, because Berto is likely to fight IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius Bundrage next, and Lamont Peterson and Zab Judah are almost surely going to be fighting next. One theory for why Arum could be including Berto and Peterson’s name to get an opponent for Bradley to take less than what they might be asking for if they realized that there only two real options for Bradley. It’s really one, because who wants to see Bradley fight Provodnikov? Yeah, if they stick the fight on ESPN, I’m all for it, but to have Bradley fight Provodnikov on HBO, no thanks.

Arum considering Brook, Peterson, Guerrero and Provodnikov as potential opponents for Bradley’s next fight

Image: Arum considering Brook, Peterson, Guerrero and Provodnikov as potential opponents for Bradley's next fightBy Allan Fox: Bob Arum has four possible opponents that he’s picking from for his fighter WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley’s first defense of his title on December 15th. Lamont Peterson and Ruslan Provodnikov’s names have already been mentioned as potential options for Bradley. But now ESPN is reporting that unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook and WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero are also among the fighters that are being considered.

Bradley has already beaten Peterson in December 2009, so it’s not exactly an exciting option. However, Peterson has picked up the IBF light welterweight title, which obviously wouldn’t be on the line for the fight with Bradley because it would be for Bradley’s World Boxing Organization 147 pound title. Peterson defeated Amir Khan last December, and he’s now looked at a lot differently than before.

Arum: Chavez Jr. smoked Marijuana because he was having problems sleeping

Image: Arum: Chavez Jr. smoked Marijuana because he was having problems sleepingBy Dan Ambrose: In the latest boxing news, Bob Arum, the promoter for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., was quick to defend Chavez Jr. after he was nailed yesterday for testing positive for Marijuana for his fight with Sergio Martinez last Saturday night. Arum doesn’t see Marijuana as a performance enhancing drug that would have given Chavez Jr. an edge in the fight. Arum feels that Marijuana should be legalized. Unfortunately, it’s still illegal and the Nevada State Athletic Commission has rules against fighters using the drug.

Arum told the LA Times “As far as I’m concerned, marijuana should be legal…[Chavez Jr. smoked pot] Three weeks to a month out of breaking camp because he was having trouble sleeping…It was therapeutic use for insomnia.”

Arum: Chavez Jr. needs to change his training regimen

Image: Arum: Chavez Jr. needs to change his training regimenBy Dan Ambrose: Promoter Bob Arum wasn’t pleased to see his money fighter former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) looking so lost and clueless in getting beaten by WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28 KO’s) last Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Instead of seeing it as a physical problem with Chavez Jr’., Arum feels that Chavez Jr’s training regimen isn’t right and that he needs to change that as soon as possible for him to be successful against the likes of Martinez.

Top Rank puts in official request to NSAC for Pacquiao vs. TBA on December 8th

Image: Top Rank puts in official request to NSAC for Pacquiao vs. TBA on December 8thBy Chris Williams: Well, it looks like former WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will be fighting on December 8th against somebody, as his promoters at Top Rank officially put in a request to the Nevada State Athletic Commission to do a fight between Pacquiao vs. an opponent still to be determined.

Now that the obvious is out of the way, Top Rank can continue working on putting together a fourth fight between Pacquiao and now 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 8th. It’s pretty much academic at this point that Marquez will be the guy that’s facing Pacquiao yet again in another expensive pay per view bout with a likely price tag of something in the neighborhood of $49.99.
