2015: Spotlight on undefeated prospects by division

beterbiev565By Gav Duthie: As 2014 draws to an end I thought I would take a look at an undefeated prospect from each division and study their chances of becoming a world champion in the new year. Many undefeated fighters are heavily protected and sometimes prospects who have suffered loss early and moved on become champions quicker.

It takes a brave fighter and promoter to risk those ‘O’s by pitting them at world level but without that bravery their records mean nothing. Some fighters are better known and further along in their careers than others and which will become champions and when is open for debate.

Hopkins-Kovalev fight loses some of it’s meaning now that Beterbiev has emerged

beterbiev66328888By Dan Ambrose: Before last night, the November 8th fight between IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6, 32 KOs) and WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) was considered to be a fight in which the winner would be seen pretty much as the main guy in the 175 pound division.

But now with Artur Beterbiev (6-0, 6 KOs) coming out of nowhere to destroy former IBF 175 pound champion Tavoris Cloud (24-3, 19 KOs) in 2 rounds last night, the Hopkins-Kovalev winner won’t have proven anything.

Cloud vs. Beterbiev tonight

cloudBy Allan Fox: In a tossup fight, former IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-2, 19 KOs) will be facing two time Russian Olympian Artur Beterbiev (5-0, 5 KOs) tonight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

The 32-year-old Cloud has clearly slipped a couple of notches in the last three years, and he’s not same exciting fighter that he once was earlier in his career when he was knocking opponents out left and right.
