Artur Beterbiev vs. Gabriel Campillo on April 4th in Quebec

beterbiev67By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated #11 WBA, #15 WBO light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) will be facing former WBa 175lb champion Gabriel Campillo (25-6-1, 12 KOs) on April 4th on the Adonis Stevenson card in Quebec, Canada, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

This is a decent test for the 30-year-old Beterbiev, a Russian Olympian from the 2012 Olympics. However, this isn’t as big a deal as some boxing fans might think it is because Campillo is now 36-years-old and not the fighter he was back in 2009 when he briefly held the WBA title before losing it to Beibut Shumenov by a very controversial decision in 2010.

Artur Beterbiev to fight on April 4th on Stevenson card in Quebec, Canada

beterbiev66By Dan Ambrose: #11 WBA light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) will be fighting on April 4th against a still to be determined opponent in a 10 round scheduled bout on the same card as headliner WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson in Quebec, Canada.

Beterbiev, 30, could have fought #2 WBC 175 pound contender Isaac Chilemba, but either Beterbiev or his promoters were reportedly not interested in that fight. Chilemba thinks Beterbiev is scared of him and he’s been letting boxing fans know about it on his twitter account.

Chilemba wants Beterbiev

beterbiev66By Allan Fox: #2 WBC, #5 WBO, #11 IBF light heavyweight contender Isaac Chilemba (23-2-2, 10 KOs) is pushing hard for a fight against unbeaten and untested #11 WBA, #11 WBC Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) for a fight that could take place on the March 14th undercard of the Sergey Kovalev vs. Jean Pascal fight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Chilemba’s promoters at Main Events are interested in making the fight against the 29-year-old Beterbiev. However, the negotiations have not gone anywhere as of yet because Beterbiev’s management hasn’t given him the green light for the fight.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Isaac Chilemba possible for March 14th

beterbiev66By Allan Fox: A fight between#11 WBA, #11 WBC light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) and #2 WBC, #5 WBO, #7 IBF Isaac Chilemba (23-2-2, 10 KOs) is in the works for March 14th as part of a triple-header on HBO as part of the Sergey Kovalev vs. Jean Pascal broadcast, according to Dan Rafael.

Chilemba has agreed to the fight. Now we just need to get the green light from Beterbiev’s promoter Yvon Michel, and then the fight can be put together. It would be a good step up fight for Beterbiev, because Chilemba, 27, is arguably a better fighter than Tavoris Cloud, a recent Beterbiev knockout victim.

Pascal: Adonis Stevenson should fight Artur Beterbiev

beterbiev677By Dan Ambrose: Jean Pascal wasn’t too impressed with the level of opposition for WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson in his mismatch last Friday night against a badly over-matched Dmitry Sukhotsky.

This was Stevenson’s fourth stay busy level opponent since he won the WBC title in June of 2013. Since then, Stevenson has beaten the following challengers: Tavoris Cloud, Tony Bellew, Andrzej Fonfara and Sukhotskiy. You can make a strong argument that all four of them were stay busy type opponents rather than challengers that had a real chance of beating Stevenson.

Artur Beterbiev looks flawed but dangerous in win over Page

beterbiev67By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated #10 WBA light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) showed excellent power in destroying American Jeff Page Jr (15-1, 10 KOs) last Friday night by a 2nd round knockdown at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

The 29-year-old Beterbiev was knocked down in the 1st round by a right hand he never saw. It turned out to be a wakeup call for Beterbiev, as he came out with a vengeance in the 2nd round and knocked Page Jr down three times in the round before the fight was halted at 2:21 of the round by referee Jean-Guy Brousseau.

Beterbiev said afterwards that he was sleepy in the opening round, and the knockdown woke him up. After that he was okay, but he needed something to get him to weak up and start fighting effectively.
