fight night-0013(Photo credit: Amanda Kwok/SHOWTIME) By Jim Dower: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (25-1, 21 KOs) had an easy time stopping an over-matched Dmitry Sukhotsky (22-3, 16 Kos) in the 5th round in an optional title defense at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Stevenson dropped Sukhotsky four times in the fight. There of the knockdowns came in the 5th round by left hands from Stevenson.

After the fight Stevenson said “He [Sergey Kovalev] has com come to me. I’m the Ring champion, so he has to come to me.”

Sukhotsky did zero to make a fight of it, as he fought defensively from start to finish. Rarely did Sukhotsky attempt to throw any punches in the fight.

The #7 WBC Sukhotsky was obviously picked out due to him not being much of a threat to Stevenson. This was an optional defense after all, but Stevenson can do a lot better than this. The Quebec fans were booing at times due to the one-sided nature of the fight.

#7 WBC, #7 IBF Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) gave a badly over-matched #7 WBA Derek Edwards (27-4-1, 14 KOs) a methodical beating on Friday night in beating him by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision in their IBF super middleweight eliminator bout.

The final judges’ scores were 119-109, 120-108 and 119-107. After the fight, Dirrell called out IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch for a rematch, saying “I think he’s scared. I’m ain’t no George Groves, man.”

Undefeated #10 WBA light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) survived a 1st round knockdown to come back and score a 2nd round stoppage win over the faster and more mobile Jeff Page (15-1, 10 KOs).

Beterbiev was knocked down by a cuffing right hand to the head in the 1st. However, in the 2nd round, Beterbiev crowded Page Jr and knocked him down three times before referee Jean-Guy Brousseau stopped the fight at 2:13 of the round.

Beterbiev showed excellent punching power with both hands. Once he started nailing Page in the 2nd round, it was only a matter of time before the fight was stopped. Beterbiev stayed on top of Page Jr and didn’t allow him to get any room to move around on the outside like he’d done in the opening round.
