Time for Dirrell doubters to eat their humble pie

Image: Time for Dirrell doubters to eat their humble pieBy Scott Gilfoid: For all the critics of Andre Dirrell, who predicted him being beaten by Arthur Abraham last Saturday night, it’s time for you all to eat some crow for your wrong predictions. I hate to gloat, but I have to say I told all of you that Dirrell was going to win and do it in a dominating fashion. Was I right? I can spot talent from a mile away and that’s why I predicted that Dirrell would put on a boxing clinic against the Joshua Clottey-like Abraham.

Abraham shows little class in Dirrell bout

Image: Abraham shows little class in Dirrell boutBy William Mackay: Up until Saturday night, Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) has always seemed like a nice guy with a gentile disposition. However, last Saturday night, boxing fans got to see another side of Abraham when he hit American Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KOs) with a tremendous right hand while Dirrell was down on the canvas after slipping. Dirrell was badly hurt after getting hammered by Abraham and needed to be taken to the hospital after the incident, which briefly had Dirrell flat on his back, both eyes closed and legs going throw spasms.

Abraham embarrasses himself

Image: Abraham embarrasses himselfBy Eric Hernandez: The atmosphere was electric at Joe Louis Arena. It was the home coming out party for Andre Dirrell and he would not disappoint. It was a classic match up of boxer vs puncher, American vs European. From the very beginning Andre Dirrel 19-1 asserted himself and boxed masterfully while Aurthur Abraham played defense while waiting for his opportunity.

Did Dirrell take a hint from Abraham to fake being hurt?

Image: Did Dirrell take a hint from Abraham to fake being hurt?By Eric Thomas: In the fallout from last night’s 11th round disqualification loss for Arthur Abraham against Andre Dirrell at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, the American Dirrell is getting branded by many boxing fans as faker. This is after Dirrell was struck in the side of the head by Abraham in the 11th round, and then instead of collapsing immediately on the canvas, Dirrell reached for head, made a look of pain on his face and then fell over to his left side and then onto his back. It looked to some like Dirrell was faking.

A frustrated Abraham loses his head, fouls Dirrell and gets disqualified

Image: A frustrated Abraham loses his head, fouls Dirrell and gets disqualifiedPhoto: Team Sauerland – By Scott Gilfoid: It was a sad night for fans of Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s). After getting completely dominated by the talented Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) for 10 one-sided rounds, the slow-footed, slow handed Abraham lost his senses completely and hit Dirrell with a hard right hand after Dirrell had slipped on the canvas and was on one knee. The right hand badly hurt Dirrell, knocking him out briefly. Immediately, Abraham put his hands out to his sides as if to say he hadn’t done anything. Referee Laurence Cole was having none of his fouling shenanigans and immediately disqualified Abraham at 1:13 of the 11th round.

Abraham: stupid Dirrell: a disgrace

Image: Abraham: stupid Dirrell: a disgraceBy Matt Flanagan: The latest Super 6 bout ended in controversy last night when Arthur Abraham was disqualified for landing an illegal shot on Andre Dirrell. At the time the fight was on a knife-edge – Dirrell ahead on points with Abraham coming on strong looking for the knockout.

Going into the fight, I had contradicting thoughts about Dirrell. He is clearly talented, with his speed and his technical ability. The big question mark that hangs over him is his courage in the ring. Against Carl Froch – his lack of courage clearly cost him the fight. Had he gone to Nottingham to fight, then he most probably would have won. As it happened, he ran, clinched and faked slips every time Froch got near him and left the arena with his first defeat.

Andre Dirrell released from hospital after DQ win over Abraham

Image: Andre Dirrell released from hospital after DQ win over AbrahamBy Peter Wells: Hours after Andre Dirrell was knocked out cold by Arthur Abraham while he was down, the news has finally come through that Dirrell was negative on brain scans. He has been released from hospital and should be recovering with family now. After an outstanding display from the American, Arthur threw a punch about 5 seconds after Dirrell had slipped to the canvas, probably caused by the water they used to clear up the blood around Abraham’s cut.

Abraham Knocks Out Dirrell with an Illegal Blow!

Image: Abraham Knocks Out Dirrell with an Illegal Blow!By Alexander Fugate: Andre Dirrell was using his superior speed of both hand and foot to frustrate “King” Arthur Abraham. Dirrell kept winning rounds, as Abraham threw very few punches, and most of the ones he did throw landed on nothing but air. Arthur threw numerous wide hooks that missed badly. Then in the fourth round Dirrell dropped Abraham for the first time in his career. In the fifth, it appeared Dirrell dropped Abraham again, but the ref ruled it a slip.

Image: Dirrell wins by disqualification! Abraham foulsBy Sam Gregory: Tonight the undefeated tournament leader Arthur Abraham 31-0 with 25 KO’s takes on southpaw Andre Dirrell 18-1 with 13 KO’s in the second round stage of Showtime’s Super Six tournament from Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

In round 1 Abraham came out in that typical straight standing European style with his gloves on either side of his face while Dirrell used his jab going to the body with little effect on Abraham.

Abraham’s crab defense will hurt him against Dirrell

By Scott Gilfoid: Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) has had nothing but success in his boxing career winning all thirty one of his fights. However, tonight the 30-year-old Abraham will be fighting a younger, much faster fighter with Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s). Abraham, a slower fighter who depends on his power to get him through fights, will be facing a much quicker, more versatile fighter when he steps in the ring against Dirrell. However, what could end up hurting Abraham more than anything in this fight is his crab defense.
