Super Six Review and Predictions: Abraham vs. Dirrell

By Alexander Fugate: After re-watching all the round one fights of the Super Six Tournament, I come away being very impressed by Andre Dirrel and Andre Ward. First, Dirrell clearly should have got the decision, but fighting in Froch’s backyard he had no chance of winning a decision. Dirrell having a point deducted for excessive clinching wasn’t an egregious call, but the failure to deduct any points from Froch for his numerous and various infractions was disturbing.

Image: Froch not sure who will win between Dirrell and Abraham – NewsPhoto credit: Photo Wende – By Scott Gilfoid: After struggling badly to beat the speedy, talented Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) by a highly controversial 12 round split decision last October, World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-0, 20 KO’s) isn’t sure who will be the one that comes out on top this Saturday night between Dirrell and Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) at the Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, Michigan. In a press release sent earlier today, Froch, 32, had this to say about the Dirrell-Abraham fight: It will be a brutal knockout by Abraham or a boring points decision by Dirrell…Come on Abraham, catch him sweet.” There you have it. Froch isn’t sure who will win.

Dirrell says he’s “Fought a million guys like Abraham” – News

Image: Dirrell says he’s “Fought a million guys like Abraham” – NewsBy Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday’s bout between super middleweights Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) and former IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) couldn’t have any more different fighters going up against other than them. Abraham is a slow, methodical fighter, who is more inclined to win his fights by throwing massive power shots and not working all that hard in doing so. Dirrell, 26, is a hard worker, with blazing fast hand speed, incredible offensive and defensive weapons that the boxing world hasn’t seen in perhaps a decade or more. Abraham, 30, is going into this Saturday’s bout thinking knockout.

Dirrell: Abraham’s arms are too short, and he can’t box

Image: Dirrell: Abraham’s arms are too short, and he can’t boxBy Scott Gilfoid: The talented Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) let his feelings known about his opponent for this Saturday night Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s), saying this to the news site bild: Abraham has too short, he cannot box, and I’m going to give him his first defeat. The 20,000 fans at the Joe Louis Arena [in Detroit, Michigan] will be pushing me, my 30 family members who will be there, and to the millions of TV viewers while see me win.” I totally agree with you, Mr. Dirrell. This is what I’ve saying all along. Abraham’s arms are way too short to beat a tall fighter like Dirrell.

Dirrell doesn’t think Abraham will be able to deal with his hand speed – News

Image: Dirrell doesn’t think Abraham will be able to deal with his hand speed – NewsBy Scott Gilfoid: Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) believes that his superior hand speed with be the key to victory for him on Saturday night against undefeated Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) in their Super Six boxing tournament fight at the Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, Michigan. In an article at Boxing Fanhouse, Dirrell says “Arthur Abraham’s a strong guy, but I think he’ll have a problem with boxers. I don’t think he will be able to match my hand speed or my foot movement.” Yes, I agree with Mr. Dirrell. Abraham is as slow molasses, one of the slowest super middleweights I’ve seen in a long time.

Abraham arrives in Detroit for Dirrell fight

Image: Abraham arrives in Detroit for Dirrell fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) has reportedly arrived in Detroit, Michigan, after flying nine hours from Germany. Abraham will be facing Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) next Saturday night at the Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, Michigan. Abraham, 30, is considered the favorite by many boxing experts to beat Dirrell in their stage 2 Super Six tournament fight. However, Abraham is coming into the fight without much else going for him other than power. Dirrell has everything else going for him in this fight – hand speed, mobility, height, reach, youth and home town advantage.

Dirrell has learned from past mistakes – he’s ready to school Abraham

Image: Dirrell has learned from past mistakes - he's ready to school AbrahamBy Scott Gilfoid: Losing the controversial 12 round split decision to WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch was perhaps the best thing that could have ever happened for Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s). Although I think Dirrell easily defeated Froch by an eight rounds to three with one even margin, I think a loss for Dirrell was actually a good thing for him. It showed Dirrell how he needs to be more aggressive, a more judge-pleasing fighter if he wants to eventually win the Super Six tournament.

Dirrell may have to punish Abraham badly to get the win

Image: Dirrell may have to punish Abraham badly to get the winBy Scott Gilfoid: After listening to the On the Ropes program at my favorite site East Side Boxing, I think Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) is going to have to punish the slow-moving unbeaten Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) a lot worse than I thought for Dirrell to get the win. Abraham said “It’s better to die in the ring rather than to lose.” For a fighter to talk like that, it means a lot. I think Abraham is the kind of fighter that once he starts really getting hammered by Dirrell, he’s going to pull out every trick in the book to try and turn the fight around in his favor. I’m talking EVERY trick in the book here.

How can Abraham beat Dirrell without hand speed?

Image: How can Abraham beat Dirrell without hand speed?By Scott Gilfoid: Former International Boxing Federation middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) goes into his March 27th fight against American Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) with three strikes against him. First of all, Abraham is a lot shorter than the 6’2” at only 5’10”. Abraham’s reach is also three inches shorter than Dirrell at 72” compared to Dirrell’s 75”. Abraham will have problems with that alone, because he won’t be able to get near Dirrell without taking a severe storm of lightning fast punches to the head before he even gets in position where he can throw a punch.
