Anthony Joshua wants a big fight

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) says it’s possible that his next fight could be against either Tyson Fury or David Haye because he would face them both on the same night.

Joshua’s win over Charles Martin last Saturday night seems to have given Joshua a boost in confidence because he’s talking like he’s infallible now instead of someone who fought an inexperienced guy that made a mistake in how he fought him. Martin made a mistake in using the same passive game plan that many of Joshua’s third tier opposition have used against him, and unfortunately for Martin, he got the same results.

Tyson Fury: Joshua looked slow and ponderous in the ring

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: While many of Anthony Joshua’s fans were crowing like a yard full of roosters after Joshua’s win over IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-1-1, 21 KOs) last Saturday night, IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury wasn’t one of them.

Fury wasn’t impressed with what he saw from the 26-year-old Joshua in his two-knockdown stoppage win over the 6’5’ Martin in the 2nd round of their fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. What Fury saw of Joshua was a slow bodybuilder looking ponderous as he threw shots at Martin. Fury then called Joshua a lamb. I guess it’s one of those slaughter the lamb things.

Anthony Joshua could be next in line for Tyson Fury

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: If things go as planned for the two British heavyweights, we could see a big clash between Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) and IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) this year. This is what Fury’s trainer Peter Fury wants to happen, and it’s clearly what Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn are both hoping will take place.

Fury, 6’9”, has a rematch against Wladimir Klitschko that he must win on July 9 for him to go forward for a fight against Joshua. I mean, Joshua and Fury can still fight each other even if they lose their next fights, but it would take away a lot of the interest in the fight by the British boxing public you would think.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury 2 on July 9 in Manchester, UK

fury8912By Scott Gilfoid: The long awaited rematch between the aging 40-year-old Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) and IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) will be taking place on July 9 in Manchester, UK, according to Fury’s trainer Peter Fury.

The fight is expected to be announced. The negotiations for the rematch took forever, and there were thoughts that Fury might move on to fight the winner of the Anthony Joshua vs. Charles Martin clash. Luckily for the fans, the Klitschko-Fury rematch will be taking place.
Klitschko will be trying to avenge his 12 round decision loss to Fury from last November.

That was a close fight with neither fighter doing much of anything. Wladimir looked too scared and confused to throw punches, whereas Fury was just ineffective on offense. Fury’s slapping shots were easily picked off by the more skilled Wladimir.

Hearn: Don’t rule out Fury vs. Joshua in the summer

hearn32By Scott Gilfoid: Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn is hoping to setup a fight between Joshua and IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury next if Joshua wins his fight this Saturday night against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin. Hearn is ready to start negotiations immediately with Fury if Joshua wins the fight, because it’s starting to look like a rematch between Fury and Wladimir Klitschko might not take place.

Hearn says that Fury looks like a fat boy compared to the heavily muscled Joshua. However, I’m not sure that Hearn realizes that muscular fighters frequently get beaten by fighters that have a fair amount of fat on them.

In other words, having a lot of muscles works against you in the sport of boxing. Now if this was something wrestling or American football, then Joshua would have a clear advantage over someone like Fury, but it’s not. Joshua looks like a dedicated weight lifter to me, and not like a serious athlete.

Joshua looking past Martin fight, wants Fury next

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) is making a mistake in looking past his opponent for this Saturday night in IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) towards a much hoped for title unification fight against IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) in the summer.

If you look at the above video of Joshua work out on the mitts, what jumps out at you is his complete lack of hand speed. Joshua has really slowed down quite a bit since he bulked up 30 pounds since turning pro just three years ago in 2013. Joshua is now like a slower version of Frank Bruno in my opinion. Joshua needs to look at some old video of him when he was 220, and get a clue that he needs to drop that weight he’s put on because he hasn’t made him a better fighter. The Joshua from 2009 would beat the same guys he’s fought as a pro but beat them easier.

Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn are practically salivating at the thought of fighting the 6’9” Fury in what would clearly be a big money fight. Unfortunately, the odds of the fight taking place under ideal conditions with both fighters being unbeaten are very slim.

Fury: Charles Martin will KO Anthony Joshua cold!

joshua2By Scott Gilfoid: IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has analyzed this Saturday’s contest between IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) and Britain’s Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) and come to the conclusion that all Joshua has is a puncher’s chance to beat the talented 6’5” Martin in their fight on April 9 at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Fury sees Joshua as a fighter that lacks the boxing skills to get the job done. Indeed, Fury sees Joshua as little more than a slow puncher with almost no experience at the pro level. The only true fight that Joshua has had since he turned pro three years ago was his fight against an injured Dillian Whyte, who came into their fight with a bad left shoulder that he re-injured in the 2nd round after almost knocking Joshua out.

“I just think Joshua is useless,” said Fury via the mirror.co.uk. “He’s got no footwork, he can’t box and he’s got no jab so that means he’s useless.

Klitschko’s management hoping Fury fight can happen in summer

fury545By Jeff Aranow: The rematch between IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko still does not have a date despite months of negotiations between the management for the two fighters. Currently, July 9 is the working date that they’re trying to get the fight to take place. However, with the 6’9” Fury recently re-injuring his back while helping his cousin Hughie Fury out, it remains to be seen whether the Fury-Klitschko fight can still take place in July.

The fight could wind up being pushed back to Autumn between September to December. This would mean that the two giant heavyweights could be out of the ring for as much as an entire year before they eventually face each other. Fury beat Wladimir by a 12 round decision last November in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Ever since then, there’s been a lot of taking back and forth between the two fighters’ management about where the fight should take place and when. As of now, the Klitschko vs. Fury 2 fight is expected to take place in a football stadium in the UK.

Fury suffers back injury, says Klitschko fight still happening

fury8912By Scott Gilfoid: IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) is saying he aggravated an old back injury last weened while helping out his cousin Hughie Fury. Fury’s lower back is having problems with spasms. Fury doesn’t expect the injury to prevent him from facing former world champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) in a rematch on July 9.

The fight date still isn’t official, and Fury is starting to lose patience with the 40-year-old Ukrainian. Fury says he might move on if the fight isn’t agreed on soon. It’s unclear whether Fury can actually walk away from the fight, however, as there was a rematch clause in his contract with Klitschko last year for their November fight.

Fury picks Deontay to defeat Povetkin

1-160116_WilderSzpilka_20552By Scott Gilfoid: IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is picking WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) to beat his mandatory opponent Alexander Povetki (30-1, 22 KOs) in their fight in two months from now on May 21 at the Khodynka Ice Palace, in Moscow, Russia.

Fury sees the 6’2” Povetkin as being too little and too fragile-chinned in order to beat a big and highly athletic fighter like the 6’7” Wilder, who also has big punching power with his right hand. Fury notes that Povetkin hit the deck repeatedly in his 12 round decision loss to former world champion Wladimir Klitschko three years ago.
