Bellew willing to travel to face Adonis Stevenson

stevenson343By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC, Tony Bellew (20-1, 12 KO’s) got his wish with Adonis Stevenson (21-1, 18 KO’s) defeating WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson last Saturday night. Bellew felt that he matched up better against the slugger Stevenson than he would against the pure boxer Dawson, and now he’s going to be able to see if his theory is correct. Bellew says he’s willing to travel to take the fight with Stevenson.

Bellew said to Sky Sports “I can’t wait to meet him (Stevenson) – he won’t have to look for me and I won’t have to look for him…I’ll go to his backyard as I’ve said – no problem…I’ll go anywhere for the fight.”

I hate to say it but Bellew doesn’t stand a chance in this fight. If he thinks he had it bad in going life and death with Isaac Chilemba in their two back to back fights this year, just wait and see what he’ll have to face when a much faster, much stronger and much tougher Stevenson faces him.

Hopkins vs. Bellew, Dawson vs. Cleverly – The most intriguing clashes at 175

dawson65By The Boxing Muse: This weekend’s action saw 175pound contender Tony ‘Bomber’ Bellew avenge a draw with a well-earned victory over Isaac Chilemba.

A return of their March 30th bout, which was considered a boring affair and a poor performance on Bellew’s account. This time around the bout was far more exciting, featuring the Liverpool born boxer Bellew and Malawian Chilemba in several brutal exchanges, but Bellew bit down on his gum shield and fought hard despite a late surge from his opponent, winning a unanimous decision by 117-112, 116-112 and 116-112 on the scorecards.

This was the final eliminator for the WBC world light-heavyweight title, Chad Dawson’s crown, meaning Bellew is mandatory for a fight with Dawson and will likely face the experienced American next.

Groves vs. Gonzalez & Bellew vs. Chilemba tonight in London

groves54By Scott Gilfoid: The undercard fights on tonight’s Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler card in London could possibly steal the show with unbeaten super middleweight contender George Groves (18-0, 14 KO’s) facing puncher Noe Gonzalez (30-2, 22 KO’s), and WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) facing the highly skilled #3 WBC, Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) in a rematch at the O2 Arena.

The Groves-Gonzalez fight looks to be another mismatch put together by Groves’ promoter Eddie Hearn, but there’d a slight possibility the fight could be interesting if Groves goes right after Gonzalez and runs into something big. I mean, I kind of doubt it, but there’s a lottery type chance that Gonzalez can drop Groves a few times and make the fight competitive.

Bellew-Chilemba II: Tony admits his frustration heading into Saturday’s bout

bellew345By Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) admits that he’s almost powerless when it comes to his opponent for this Saturday Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) in their rematch at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Bellew wants Chilemba to slug with him, but he feels that it’s not going to happen unless Chilemba chooses to fight his fight and just stand there throwing shots. That’s probably not going to happen because Chilemba’s not stupid and he’s not going to fight a primitive caveman style just because it helps Bellew out.

Tony Bellew vs. Isaac Chilemba II this Saturday, May 25th in London, UK

bellew4543By Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) will be getting what many boxing fans feel is an undeserved rematch against #3 WBC, Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) this Saturday night on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler fight card at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Bellew, #1 WBC, fought to a controversial 12 round draw against Chilemba last March in Bellew’s hometown of Liverpool, UK, and he Bellew looked terrible in that fight, getting beaten to the punch all night long.

Bellew vs. Chilemba II: Will Isaac get a fair shake in the rematch?

bellew44By Scott Gilfoid: Last March we saw #3 WBC 175 contender Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) put on a defensive clinic in dominating #1 WBC Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) for 12 rounds and then ending up with 12 round draw for his efforts in their fight at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

For boxing fans who don’t know, Bellew is from Liverpool and Chilemba is from South Africa. I still can’t forget how Bellew was trying to convince Chilemba after the fight that he had done enough to win. Bellew even told Chilemba that his own trainer had said that Bellew won. It was quite sad and actually kind of pathetic to see Bellew melting down like this. He was a kid who hadn’t got his way and he was going to pout about it.
