Thurman calls out Mayweather, Pacquiao, Khan, Bradley & Porter

thurman333By Scott Gilfoid: After beating Luis Collazo (36-7, 19 KOs) last Saturday night at the USF Sundome Arena in Tampa, Florida and narrowly avoiding being knocked out himself in the process, WBA World welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) says he wants to face the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Shawn Porter, Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao, Tim Bradley or Marcos Maidana.

Thurman feels he’s ready for all those guys and he says he’s willing to put his unbeaten record on the line against them if possible.

Errol Spence wants Khan, Thurman or Porter on September 12th

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #8 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) wants a big name for his next fight on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Spence and trainer Derrick James want Amir Khan, Keith Thurman or Shawn Porter for the September card, and they believe that one of Mayweather’s welterweight titles will be on the line for the fight.

Mayweather said last month after Spence’s 3rd round knockout win over Phil Lo Greco (26-2, 14 KOs) on the Adrien Broner vs. Porter fight card on June 20th, that he’d like to see Spence battle it out against Porter or Thurman on September 12th for one of is welterweight world titles that he’d be giving up for them to fight over.

Maidana stops Khan, Porter and Berto, Robert Garcia says

maidana4566By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Robert Garcia thinks that #3 WBA, #3 WBC Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) would KO Amir Khan, Andre Berto and Shawn Porter if he could get a fight against any of those guys.

Garcia would like to see Maidana fight one or all of them if he could because he thinks they would be a good match-up for him. Maidana has more size and punching power than all three of them, and it definitely would be difficult for them to handle his power if Maidana came into the fights in top shape.

Errol Spence calls out Khan, Thurman and Porter for September 12th

spence53By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #8 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) is making it known that he wants to fight one of the following top welterweights for his next fight date on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight date on September 12th: Amir Khan, Keith Thurman or Shawn Porter. Mayweather has already said that he’ll give up one of his welterweight titles so that Spence can fight a top name for the vacant title.

Mayweather is hoping that Porter or Thurman will accept a fight with the young 25-year-old Spence in order to pick up a vacant world title, but it looks like neither of them value a world title enough to want to fight Spence.

No truth to Broner vs. Porter 2 rematch, says Ken P.

broner64By Dan Ambrose: Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) recently tweeted that a fight between him and former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) will be taking place in September. However, Porter’s father/trainer Ken Porter says that there’s been no contact about a rematch between Shawn and Broner.

Besides that, he said that Broner isn’t the one that decides who he’s going to fight. That’s done by his management. So even if he wanted a rematch with Porter, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen.

Will Porter vs. Broner 2 be better than Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2?

broner565656By Yannis Mihanos: Last Saturday, I watched a highly competitive and entertaining encounter between former three division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) and Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) in their bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Porter wound up winning a 12 round unanimous decision in a fight that was televised on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC.

Porter and Broner gave a strong reminder to all boxing fans of how competing at this level should be.

I heard Porter prior the match on an interview highlighting that this fight will be a much better fight than that of the May 2nd fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Of course at that time I didn’t believe him. I had my sincere doubts. Let’s not forget that Pacquiao and Mayweather belong at the elite level of boxing. It’s a fact that last May we witnessed a fight that met not our expectation in terms of quality.

Technical profile: Shawn Porter

porter6809By Gav Duthie: Shawn Porter pulled himself back into the top end of the welterweight rankings on Saturday by outpointing Adrien Broner. ‘Showtime’ Porter has only lost once by close decision in his career to date to Kell Brook and now boasts an impressive resume. Despite this it seems he isn’t getting a huge amount of credit from certain quarters for his crude style.

So from a technical assessment what makes Porter such an impressive fighter. What are the subtle qualities that Porter possesses which makes him so tough to beat. I’m no Teddy Atlas but here are the 5 main qualities I feel makes Porter a top fighter.

All Broner does is run and hold, says Molina

broner921By Allan Fox: John Molina, who is no strange to Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs), says all Broner did in his fight last Saturday night against Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) was hold and run. He was surprised then that Broner came up empty in losing a 12 round decision to Porter.

Molina felt that referee Tony Weeks should have taken points off from Broner earlier in the fight due to the constant holding he was doing in the fight. Indeed, Broner wasn’t just occasionally holding. He was holding each time Porter came inside looking to land shots and he felt that it was a strategy that Broner was using in order to keep Porter from being able to fight his game.

Molina went on to say that Broner did the same kind of holding in their fight, but instead of the referee Robert Byrd doing something about the holding, he wound up warning Molina for coming forward with his head down.

Mayweather wants Broner-Porter 2 on his September undercard

broner11111By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is looking to put together a tremendous undercard for his next fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Mayweather could be facing either Karim Mayfield or Andre Berto in the headliner bout, he wants to have Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) fight Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) on the undercard, as well as unbeaten #8 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) challenge for the title against undefeated WBA 147 pound champion Keith Thurman (25-0, 21 KOs).

If Mayweather can setup this card, it would arguably be a far better card than Mayweather’s fight card against Manny Pacquiao last May.

Adrien Broner: A tale of unworthy superstar

broner70By BR: As a fan of boxing as a whole, I was outraged at the performance by Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs). A man with such talent and skills, but performs horribly every time that the level of competition is increased. Then I suddenly thought to myself, are the fans and myself caught in the midst of his “big talk” rather than his skills.

Is Adrien Broner a superstar, or a fighter who sounds like he’s worthy but simply mediocre?
