Broner averaged only 26 punches thrown per round against Porter

broner6677By Dan Ambrose: If Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) and his fans want a good reason for why he lost to former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) last Saturday night then you might want to look at the final punch stats. Broner averaged only 25.75 punches thrown per round for the 12 round bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In comparison, Porter threw almost twice as many punches in averaging 49 punches thrown per round.

Broner’s marketability will take a big hit with loss to Porter, says Garcia

porter44By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Robert Garcia thinks the loss by former three division world champion Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) last Saturday night at the hands of Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) is going to be a big hit to Broner’s marketability. While Garcia does think the 25-year-old Broner can come back from the loss to become a successful fighter, he thinks he needs to throw more punches.

Broner isn’t going to win a lot of fights if he allows himself to get outworked by high volume punchers like Porter. To be sure, it was a bad style match-up for Broner from the moment the contracts for the fight were signed, but Broner should have been able to throw more punches than he did.

Porter not interested in fighting Errol Spence, wants Mayweather instead

_MG_8091(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: Fresh off of his big win over Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) from last Saturday night, Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) says he has no interest in fighting unbeaten prospect/contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s undercard in September.

Mayweather recently said that he’d like for Spence, who he is very high on, to fight either Porter or WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman on his next undercard.

Adrien Broner’s dream of being the replacement for Mayweather takes a hit

broner67By Allan Fox: Adrien Broner’s career suffered a huge setback last Saturday night with him losing a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 115-111, 118-108 and 114-112 to Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The loss was a big enough one to derail Broner’s dreams of becoming the guy to step inside Floyd Mayweather Jr’s career when he walks away from the game in one or two more fights. Before his loss to Porter, Broner had said that Mayweather only had 36 more minutes of fight time before he replaces him as the top fighter in the sport.

_MG_0665(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: After #8 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence’s 3rd round annihilation victory over Phil Lo Greco (26-2, 14 KOs) last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, promoter/boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. told the media that he’d like to see either the unbeaten Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) or Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) face WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 21 KOs) on his undercard of his next fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand.

Spence, 25, is all for it, saying “Hopefully in September I can fight Floyd…err, Keith Thurman,” as quoted by ESPN.com.

Where does Adrien Broner go from here?

_MG_1805(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By M. Malik: Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs), a three-time world champion, lost a 12 round unanimous decision to former IBF welterweight world champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) last night in their fight on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was the second loss of the 25-year-old Broner’s seven year pro career. Broner now stands at the record of 32 fights, 30 wins and 2 losses. The guy who many thought would take over boxing as the next superstar is proving to be nothing special.

Broner showed glimpses of greatness at the lower weight classes against the likes of Antonio Demarco, but he has been clearly exposed in the higher weight divisions against Marcos Maidana and now Shawn Porter.

Porter defeats Broner

_MG_2157(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Allan Fox: Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) was too busy for former three division world champion Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) tonight in defeating him by a 12 round unanimous decision in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The final scores were 114-112, 115-111 and 118-108.

Apart from an 12th round knockdown that Broner scored with a left hook, it was a pretty one-sided fight with Porter just being way too busy for Broner, who was constantly holding, shoving and fouling. Referee Tony Weeks finally got tired of Broner’s holding in the 11th round and took off one point. You can make an argument that Weeks should have taken off additional points for holding, and one for Broner hitting Porter when he had his back turned towards him.

Thurman is picking Porter to come out victorious in this fight that will be televised on NBC at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thurman thinks that Porter’s aggressiveness will be key to him getting the win over the 25-year-old Broner.
