Adonis Stevenson to fight next in June or July, no mention of Kovalev

stevenson63By Dan Ambrose: After his fairly one-sided 12 round unanimous decision win over 35-year-old former WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika (32-7, 21 KOs) last Saturday night, WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs) says he’ll be back in the ring in June or July against whoever his adviser Al Haymon chooses for him to fight.

The 37-year-old Stevenson made no mention of IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs), who the World Boxing Council recently ordered Stevenson to start negotiations with last March.

Artur Beterbiev and his future

beterbiev63By Sebastian Mora: First of all, I will start by saying that I though Gabriel Campillo was going to atleast give Artur Beterbiev a solid 7 or 8 rounds. Gabriel Campillo is a fighter that lost a split decision to Beibut Shumenov (Boxer Hopkins got huge credit for beating) which many people thought could have gone either way.

After that, he went on to fight and BEAT Karo Murat, (Another boxer Hopkins got huge credit for beating) although it was a split draw, anybody that watches that fight knows that it was mostly a hometown decision. No disrespect to Karo Murat of course.

Beterbiev: I will beat Sergey Kovalev again

beterbiev67By Allan Fox: #11 WBA Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) can’t wait until he gets another fight against IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev. Beterbiev defeated Kovalev while the two of them fought in the amateur ranks years ago, and Beterbiev feels he’ll be able to do it again no problem when the time comes for him to get a title shot.

As of now, Beterbiev is still climbing the ranks, and it might be a while before he’s ranked high enough to get a title shot against the hard hitting Kovalev.

Reviewing the pound for pound picture

floyd93By James Sexton: It was a long time ago that the ‘pound for pound’ rankings were created to put Ray Robinson’s performances and achievements into perspective. Today, Ring magazine, (owned by Golden Boy Promotions) and many other sporting writers and websites use the formula to keep track of the most decorated athletes in the sport.

After the success of boxing in 2013, 2014 has seemed like a lackluster year and many find their lists are starting to take a different shape for the first time in a while.

Al Haymons Master Plan: Is boxing’s ‘Cold War’ only just beginning?

By Robert Morris: With news that Al Haymon is taking his entourage of fighters off Premium Cable TV (Showtime, HBO, etc.) and onto Network TV (NBC) in early 2015, how do we see boxing panning out in the New Year?

Well, with Bernard Hopkins’ heroic performance against Sergey Kovalev last weekend and rumours of Canelo Alvarez potentially facing Miguel Cotto next year; it would seem the cracks are beginning to show in boxing’s proverbial ‘Cold War’ (Golden Boy/Showtime vs. Top Rank/HBO)!

Stevenson vs Kovalev is the fight that boxing fans need to demand!

stevenson222By Jesse James: Last Saturday Sergey Kovalev beat the great and legendary Bernard Hopkins. It was a complete shutout with Kovalev winning every round while also dropping Hopkins in the first round and hurting him a few other times. Credit to Hopkins for taking the fight and fighting the best in his division and showing good defense as well. In the process Kovalev added three of the four major world titles in his possession making him the unified WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight champion of the world. What’s missing is the lineal title which would make him #1 in the division and the prestigious WBC title.
