Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KO’s) first bout positioned a by-the-book boxer (Andre) vs. a boxer who can punch (Sergey) into a combative contest, back in November of 2016. Depending on whom you ask (mainly the fans of either boxer), one will say that Andre pulled the win off by boxing smartly, later on in the bout. Others will protest that Sergey had won the majority of the rounds and should have remained undefeated—-a distinction that Andre will carry into their rematch.

The  World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association were formed long before Andre Ward was born. The ideals of “clean punching”, “effective aggression”, “ring generalship”, and “defense” were placed into the verbiage of scoring a professional boxing match long before Andre Ward laced up his first glove.  Therefore the “blame” for his ability to win within the rules of the sport by which he has made his living cannot be placed on his shoulders.

By Allan Fox: Andre “SOG” Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) says he’s going to have fun inside the ring in his rematch with Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) in less than 2 weeks on June 17 on HBO PPV at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ward says he’s been working on some adjustments to make in the fight, and he says he’s got his legs back and he’s able to move more.
