By Jim Dower: #2 ranked WBC welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KO’s) wants his title shot that’s owed him by World Boxing Council welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO’s). Aydin, 27, reportedly took a step aside fee so that Berto could take the fight with the lower ranked Freddy Hernandez in November, but Aydin, the mandatory challenger for Berto, now wants his title shot. Aydin is not happy that Berto is talking of now fighting a bout against light welterweight Victor Ortiz on April 16th instead of facing him.

Aydin wants Berto fight: Will Andre finally fight him?
By Dan Ambrose: Number #2 ranked WBC welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KO’s) has been trying to get a fight against World Boxing Council welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO’s) for ages now without any luck. But now the WBC is saying that Aydin the vacant WBC Silver welterweight champion, will be Berto’s next opponent. For some reason, Berto has been reluctant to take this fight and has preferred to face obscure fighters like Freddy Hernandez, Carlos Quintana or smaller fighters from the light welterweight division like Juan Urango and Steve Forbes.

Will Berto fight Aydin or another light welterweight?
By Jason Kim: At this point I would be more than pleased to see WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (26-0, 20 KO’s) fight welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KO’s). It’s not that I see Aydin as a great fighter, but at least he’s a welterweight and can punch. Berto has been a big disappointment as the World Boxing Council champion.
Since winning the WBC title two years ago against Miguel Angel Rodriguez, Berto has fought light welterweights Steve Forbes and Juan Urango, and struggled with the feather fisted Luis Collazo. In his last fight, Berto beat Carlos Quintana, another non-puncher.
The welterweight fiasco: Aydin, Berto, Mayweather, Pacquiao
By Chris Kelly: Boxing fans and critics alike seem to be making out that World Boxing Council welterweight champion Andre Berto is ducking his mandatory challenger Seluck Aydin when really we all know the only reason Aydin has even reached the position of WBC Number 1 contender is boxing politics : He’s a huge name in his home country and sells a lot of tickets there. This was apparent in his last fight against Ionut Dan Ion, which practically sold out.
Aydin defeats Jo-Jo Dan by 12-round split decision
By Jim Dower: Undefeated welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KO’s) defeated Ionut Dan Ion (26-1, 14 KO’s) by a controversial 12 round split decision on Saturday night to capture the obscure WBC Silver welterweight title at the Abdi Ipekci Spor Salonu, in Istanbul, Turkey. It was hard to score a lot of the rounds, because Jo-Jo Dan, who fought remarkably a lot like super middleweight Lucian Bute, lacked punching power. He just had nothing in his shots whatsoever.
Aydin vs. Ionut Dan Ion on Saturday
By Jim Dower: Undefeated welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (19-4, 15 KO’s) faces unbeaten Romanian prospect Ionut Dan Ion (26-0, 14 JO’s) on Saturday night at the Abdi Ipekci Spor Salonu, Istanbul, Turkey. Aydin, 26, is currently ranked #2 WBC and #3 IBF and really needs a win over Jo-Jo Dan to get a shot against one of the current welterweight champions. Aydin is short for a welterweight, only 5’7”, but has good power and is able to generate a lot of power in close.

Aydin, 25, will be fighting in front of a home crowd in Turkey, and will be facing a tough test in the equally powerful Bonsu. Ranked #2 in the WBC, a win over Bonsu will put Aydin as the mandatory challenger for WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto.
