According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, the fight is in the works. Also, WBA bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero could also be on the card against a still to be determined opponent.

The only question that might prevent these fights from being put on the Marquez-Katsidis undercard is the money. Berto will likely want a lot of money, as he’s used to be paid well for his HBO fights. However, might have to take less for a fight against Aydin for this card and it’s unclear whether Berto would be willing to do that. Right now, Berto doesn’t have a lot of options for opponents out there, unless he wants to fight yet another light welterweight like Andriy Kotelnik. Berto needs to start looking good in his fights, because it’s been awhile since he’s really been impressive. At the same time, Berto needs to start fighting better opponents at some point.

He’s beaten Carlos Quintana, Juan Urango, Luis Callazo and Steve Forbes since winning the World Boxing Council welterweight title in 2008. Berto had a chance to fight Shane Mosley but pulled out of the fight due to the Haiti earthquake tragedy. Floyd Mayweather Jr. then turned around and fought Mosley and easily beat him by a 12 round decision in May, bringing in big pay per view numbers in the process. Now Berto is stuck looking at fighting Aydin, a fighter that few boxing fans are familiar with in the U.S.
