Image: Guerrero-Aydin fight sold 2,891 ticketsBy Allan Fox: Steve Kim is reporting that Robert Guerrero’s fight against Selcuk Aydin in San Jose, California only drew 2,891 ticket with 3,126 tickets given away for the fight at the HP Pavilion. Those are not good numbers at all, not when Guerrero is trying to make a case that he deserves a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Whether he deserves a fight against Floyd or not right now, the gate numbers for Guerrero weren’t good for the Adyin fight. Showtime still hasn’t announced what the ratings figures were for the Guerrero-Adyin fight, but unless they were really impressive numbers, it’s going to be next to impossible for Guerrero to talk Mayweather into fighting him.

Mayweather pays attention to things like gate numbers and television ratings. He’s likely not going to willingly fight someone who’s not good a huge following and who doesn’t attract the big numbers on television no matter how much Guerrero talks about wanting to fight him.

Guerrero can maybe change his popularity if he faces a couple of good welterweight contenders liken Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto to try and pick up some big wins. However, getting those fights might not be easy and even if Guerrero does land an important fight like that, he may not have the power to compete against those guys. Guerrero’s main advantage is his size, and that disappears if you put him in with Berto and Ortiz, because they’re basically about the same size as him but much faster and stronger. Picture a faster version of Aydin that throws combinations with just as much power. Guerrero will be in trouble if he fights Ortiz or Berto.
