Cotto vs. Mayorga to be televised on Showtime PPV on 3/12

By Dan Ambrose: With HBO deciding to instead show the WBC middleweight bout between champion Sergio Martinez vs. Sergeii Dzinziruk on March 12th, Bob Arum has moved his fighter WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto 35-2, 28 KO’s) to Showtime for a pay-per-view bout against Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-2, 23 KO’s) that will compete with the Martinez-Dzinziruk fight. It’s a tough choice, because the Martinez fight won’t have the huge price tag that the Cotto-Mayorga fight card will have.

Cotto vs. Mayorga: Will Ricardo make Miguel quit?

By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) is probably pretty fortunate to be the holder of the World Boxing Association junior middleweight title right now, because if he had to have faced a tougher fighter than fellow Top Rank stable fighter Yuri Foreman in his last fight to capture the WBA title, Cotto probably would have been torn to pieces and finished off. Cotto has taken a ton of punishment in the ring in the past two years to the point where he looks bad when he starts to get hit.

Arum wants this to be a PPV bout despite Cotto coming off surgery and nine months of inactivity.

Joshua Clottey, the former IBF welterweight champion and recent victim of Manny Pacquiao, could be fighting on the card.

Cotto vs. Mayorga: Ricardo is going to put a hurting on Miguel

By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) has taken a lifetimes’ worth of punishment in fights against Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao in the last three years. And the accumulation of shots that Cotto has absorbed has really taken its toll on him, making more vulnerable to getting hurt and stopped than ever was before.

Cotto-Mayorga: There might not be anything left of Miguel for Margarito to blast apart again

By Jason Kim: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) has been matched against a still semi-live Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) on March 12th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cotto is coming off a shoulder surgery, and his promoter Bob Arum still wanted to make his fight a pay-per-view bout to bring in good money for Cotto and company.

Cotto vs. Mayorga: Is this a good PPV fight?

By Chris Williams: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) will be defending his newly won World Boxing Association title against an old veteran of many ring wars 37-year-old Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) on March 12th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Martiroysan wants Cotto-Mayorga winner

By Jason Kim: Unbeaten junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s) is hoping he can take on the winner of the March 12th bout between WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and challenger Ricardo Mayorga. Martiroysan, 24, was hoping to be Cotto’s next opponent in March, but was passed over for the better known ex-two time world champion Mayorga, who at 37, probably is much less of a threat to beat Cotto compared to the younger, taller and faster Martiroysan.
