Martiroysan wants Cotto-Mayorga winner

By Jason Kim: Unbeaten junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s) is hoping he can take on the winner of the March 12th bout between WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and challenger Ricardo Mayorga. Martiroysan, 24, was hoping to be Cotto’s next opponent in March, but was passed over for the better known ex-two time world champion Mayorga, who at 37, probably is much less of a threat to beat Cotto compared to the younger, taller and faster Martiroysan.

Cotto vs. Mayorga: Miguel may be sorry he picked this fight

Image: Cotto vs. Mayorga: Miguel may be sorry he picked this fightBy Sean McDaniel: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) may be sorry he or his promoter Bob Arum selected Ricard Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) as his next opponent to fight on March 12th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is supposed to be a stay busy fight for Cotto, a bout for him to get an easy payday while he gets the rust out from his time off since having shoulder surgery.

Did Cotto duck Martirosyan to fight Mayorga?

Image: Did Cotto duck Martirosyan to fight Mayorga?By Chris Williams: You have to wonder why WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 Ko’s) opted to face 37-year-old Richard Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) on March 12th next year rather than unbeaten number #5 ranked World Boxing Association contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s). If I didn’t know better, I’d swear it looks like Cotto is ducking Martirosyan for what appears to be the much easier fight with the old shopworn Mayorga. Now why else would Cotto fight an old guy like Mayorga rather than someone that promises and exciting fight and who would have a great chance of beating him like Martirosyan.

Cotto-Mayorga: It might be a good thing that Miguel loses badly to Ricardo

Image: Cotto-Mayorga: It might be a good thing that Miguel loses badly to RicardoBy Chris Williams: I’m beginning to think their may be a silver lining to WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) if he gets beaten up and put out of his misery by former two division world champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) in their fight on March 12th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. At least by destroying Cotto, it will save boxing fans from having to witness a second future Manny Pacquiao fight in 2011, and that may be well worth it. If there’s any fight I don’t want to see, besides the ridiculous Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley bout, it’s a needless rematch between Pacquiao and Cotto in 2011.

Cotto to fight Margarito after Mayorga fight

Image: Cotto to fight Margarito after Mayorga fightBy Eric Thomas: If WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) can get by his next fight against former two division world champion 37-year-old Ricard Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s), Cotto will be facing Antonio Margarito in a rematch during the Summer months. Cotto, 30, was beaten up badly and stopped by Margarito two years ago in 2008. It was like watching Cotto get ripped part by Manny Pacquiao. Cotto was forced to run all fight long to avoid Margarito’s heavy hands, but in the 10 round, Margarito was finally able to catch up to a tired Cotto and hurt him with some big uppercuts near the end of the round.

Ricardo Mayorga wants Pacquiao?

Image: Ricardo Mayorga wants Pacquiao?By Edgar Solorzano: Nicaraguan boxing veteran Ricardo Mayorga, 28-7-1, 22 KO’s is coming out of retirement to face Michael Walker, 19-2-5, 12 KO’s on December 17th, in Miami, Florida. Although Mayorga hasn’t proved that he can still keep up with good quality fighters yet. He’s already aiming high and is willing to fight Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao. The Pac-Man has become the biggest magnet in Boxing. Almost every fighter is calling Pacquiao out, they all want a piece of him. Ricardo Mayorga is not the only warrior that wants to step in the ring against Pacquiao. There are other fighters waiting in line like; Andre Berto, Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez. It’s obvious that “El Matador” Ricardo Mayorga wants to fight Pacquiao to get a nice paycheck. Mayorga has fought some tough bulls, but I don’t see “El Matador” dominating this Filipino bull.

Sturm vs. Mayorga on September 4th

Image: Sturm vs. Mayorga on September 4thBy Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm (33-2-1, 14 KO’s) will be fighting for the first time in over a year when he takes on 37-year-old former WBA/WBC welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga (28-7-1, 22 KO’s) on September 4th at the Lanxess-Arena, Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Sturm has been embroiled with management problems for the past year and is now finally clear of them. Given the large amount of time off between fights, Sturm has decided to ease his way back into the thick of things by facing the ring-rusty Mayorga, who hasn’t fought in over two years since being stopped in the 12th round by Shane Mosley in 2008.
