Malignaggi: Canelo-Khan is a waste of time

1-canelo 2By Tim Fletcher: Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi doesn’t like the recently announced fight between WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir Khan. Malignaggi sees the contest as a mismatch due to Canelo’s huge weight and punching power advantage. Malignaggi sees it as a waste of time for the fight to take place because he doesn’t think Khan will be able to make it past the sixth round due to Canelo’s advantage in size and power.

Malignaggi thinks that Khan could get potentially badly hurt in this fight if he gets knocked out cold by the 25-year-old Canelo, and he believes there’s a possibility that Khan will never be the same fighter after this bout is over with.

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, heavyweights Anthony Joshua (14-0, 14 KOs) and Dillian Whyte (16-0, 13 KOs) weighed in today for their contest this Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, UK. I must say I think Whyte was the bigger guy in terms of mass than the taller 6’6” Joshua. Whyte weighed in at a solid 247lbs and looked in great shape at 6’3”. For his part, Joshua came in a little leaner than he had in past fights in weighing in at 245lbs, which 5 pounds lighter than his last fight in September against Gary Cornish.

Paulie Malignaggi vs. Antonio Moscatiello this Saturday at O2, London, UK

malignaggi454By Dan Ambrose: Paulie Malignaggi (34-7, 7 KOs) will be fighting little known 33-year-old Italian Antonio Moscatiello (20-2-1, 14 KOs) in a 12 round scheduled fight this Saturday night for the vacant EBU welterweight title on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Dillian Whyte card at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The previously scheduled fight for Malignaggi against 47-year-old Gianluca Branco fell apart after Branco reportedly pulled out of the fight. Despite Malignaggi, 35, being an American, he can still fight for the EBU title due to him being born in Italy and holding Italian citizenship.

Winning the EBU title was something that Malignaggi always wanted to do. It’s just too bad that he’s not fighting someone really good for the fight so that the title will mean more.

Is Hearn positioning Malignaggi for Kell Brook fight?

malignaggi133By Scott Gilfoid: It was just announced that 35-year-old Paulie Malignaggi (34-7, 7 KOs) has been added to the Eddie Hearn promoted December 12th card at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Malignaggi will be fighting 45-year-old EBU welterweight champion Gianluca Branco (49-3-1, 24 KOs) on the undercard of the heavyweight fight between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.

British promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport also promotes IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook. The talk that is floating around the boxing world is that the reason why Hearn is adding Malignaggi to the December 12th Joshua-Whyte card on Sky Box Office is to whet the appetite of British boxing fans so that he can put Malignaggi in with Brook in 2016.

Paulie Malignaggi vs. Gianluca Branco possible for Joshua-Whyte card on 12/12

malignaggi133By Allan Fox: The soon to be 35-year-old former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (34-7, 7 KOs) is expected to be added to the December 12th Anthony Joshua vs. Dillian Whyte card at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Malignaggi, who turns 35 next week on November 23rd, will be facing 45-year-old EBU welterweight champion Gianluca Branco (49-3-1, 24 KOs). This isn’t a great fight for the card, but it does keep Malignaggi busy and in position for him to potentially get another big money fight in the future against one of the top dogs at 140 or 147.

Paulie Malignaggi vs. Gianluca Branco possible

malignaggi133By Allan Fox: Paulie Malignaggi (34-7, 7 KOs) is interested in challenging 45-year-old EBU welterweight champion Gianluca Branco (49-3-1, 24 KOs) for his title before the end of this year. It’s a title that the 34-year-old Malignaggi would like to add to his collection of belts that he’s won during his 14-year pro career.

Despite having lost 3 out of his last 5 fights, Malignaggi is plugging forward with his career in picking off some of the lower hanging fruit to start winning again. By staying active and beating whoever he can, Malignaggi is keeping his name alive and increasing the chances that he’ll eventually get another nice paying fight like the one he got against former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia last August.
