Michael Katsidis vs. Eddy Comaro on March 14th in Australia

katsidis223By Dan Ambrose: 33-year-old lightweight Michael Katsidis (28-6, 23 KO’s) will be making a comeback on March 14th in a scheduled 10 round bout against 27-year-old journeyman Eddy Comaro (27-17-5, 11 KO’s) at the Rumours International, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Katsidis hasn’t fought in 2 years since losing to Albert Mensah by a 10 round majority decision in April of 2012.

It’s been three years since Katsidis last won a fight when he defeated Michael Lozada by a 3rd round TKO in August of 2011. In Katsidis’ next fight, he was beaten by interim WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns by a 12 round unanimous decision in November of 2011.

Michael Katsidis making a comeback

katsidis223By Allan Fox: Former lightweight contender Michael Katsidis (28-6, 23 KO’s) reportedly will be making a comeback starting in March against an opponent still to be determined, according to ESPN. Katsidis hasn’t fought since losing a controversial 10 round decision to Albert Mensah two years ago. Katsidis then retired shortly after that with 4 defeats in his last 5 fights.

Katsidis will be trained by his long-time trainer/manager Brendon Smith for the comeback. There’s no word about what weight class Katsidis will be fighting at, but before his retirement he had been fighting at light welterweight. That might not be the best weight for the 5’7″ Katsidis because there are a number of big punchers in that division that might be too powerful for him. Katsidis is better off moving back down to the lightweight division and competing in that class, because he’s more suited for that weight.

Michael Katsidis wants farewell bout

katsidis223By Eric Thomas: Australian Michael “The Great” Katsidis (28-6, 23 KO’s) is reportedly thinking of coming back for a farewell bout to finish his career off on a positive note instead of the controversial defeat he suffered last year in April against Albert Mensah.

The 32-year-old Katsidis hasn’t fought since then. He says he’s been cleared to fight, and is thinking about lining up one last bout for his fans.

Katsidis said in an interview with The Chronicle “I’m clear to fight. My health is a number one priority…I want to fight again and go out on my terms. This is where I want to have my send-off…but having a send-off now in Toowoomba at my final fight is important to me.”

Katsidis possibly retiring from boxing

katsidis334By Allan Fox: Former WBO interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis (28-6, 23 KO’s) is reportedly on the verge of retirement after pulling out of his scheduled February 21st bout against Weng Haya due to a medical condition, according to Yahoo News Australia. Johnny Lewis, Katsidis’ trainer, said he was pretty upset about it.

Lewis said to News Ltd. “Michael was crying at the news. It’s heartbreaking…I’m glad the tests have stopped him from fighting before something really bad happened. Boxing is a tough sport and it’s no good taking chances with your health.”

Michael Katsidis to be trained by Johnny Lewis

katsidis223By Jason Kim: The struggling former interim WBO lightweight champion Michael Katsidis (28-6, 23 Ko’s) will now be trained by Johnny Lewis in order to try and revive his sinking career, according to sunshinecoastdaily.com.au. Lewis previously trained Jeff Fenech as well as Kostya Tszyu.

Katsidis, 32, is hoping he can eventually win a world title at lightweight. It’s going to be awfully tough for Katsidis because he’s not currently ranked in the top 15 in the lightweight division and he’s lost four out of his last five fights. Granted, Katsidis has lost to some very good fighters in Juan Manuel Marquez, Robert Guerrero, Ricky Burns and Albert Mensah, but it’s going to be really tough for him to move up the ranks and beat the current champions.

Hatton: Senchenko is a better opponent than Katsidis

Image: Hatton: Senchenko is a better opponent than KatsidisBy Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) was really slathering on the compliments towards his pick for his November 24th comeback at the Manchester Arena, in Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom. Hatton, 33, will be fighting the recently knocked out former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-1, 21 KO’s) instead someone with a little more clout like Michael Katsidis. Hatton actually sees the 35-year-old Senchenko as a better fighter than Katsidis, as does many of Hatton’s loyal boxing fans.

Hatton said to Sky Sports News “There were certain opponents mentioned, people like Michael Katsidis and people were excited about him coming, but I think this is a better opponent.”

Ricky Hatton NOT fighting Michael Katsidis on Nov 24th, says agent

Image: Ricky Hatton NOT fighting Michael Katsidis on Nov 24th, says agentBy Scott Gilfoid: If you were hoping that 33-year-old former two division world champion Ricky Hatton was going to take the always tough Michael Katsidis for his next fight on November 24th you might be disappointed with this news. Kataidis’ agent Matthew Tripp told Sky Sports “At this stage there have been no discussions. But it is something we would consider depending on the purse and depending on the weight.”

It’s unclear who started the rumor about Hatton fighting Katsidis or why started it in the first place. But Hatton’s people probably should have come forward to say that Katsidis wasn’t the guy, because some boxing fans might have purchased tickets to see Hatton fight on November 24th in Manchester thinking Hatton would be fighting a solid guy like Katsidis. Those fans might feel less than happy if they’re stuck tickets to see Hatton fight some 3rd tier fighter pulled off the street and thrown in the ring to get smashed.

Ricky Hatton is back and ready to destroy Michael Katsidis

Image: Ricky Hatton is back and ready to destroy Michael KatsidisBy Marcus Stewart: Legendary British fighter Ricky Hatton is back and is back with a vengeance. He’s ready to get back onto the world stage in the welterweight division and relight boxing’s fire which has been dimmed quite a lot with the introduction of overrated fighters such as Adrien Broner and Devon Alexander who have been seriously over hyped yet have proved nothing in their careers. Ricky Hatton is ready to go for the big fights once again and a fight against Michael Katsidis looks likely for Hatton’s comeback fight in November.

Ricky Hatton showed throughout his career that he could match it with top opposition such as Jose Luis Castillo and Kostya Tszyu. Ricky Hatton is an international legend without question. I’m 100% sure that if a fight does happen with Hatton and Katsidis then Hatton will win comfortably. He’s quicker stronger and more technically gifted than the Australian.

Ricky Hatton making a mistake if he chooses Katsidis to fight

Image: Ricky Hatton making a mistake if he chooses Katsidis to fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) is rumored to be taking on tough lightweight contender Michael Kataidis (28-6, 23 KO’s) for his comeback fight on November 24th at the Manchester Arena (formerly M.E.N Arena), Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom. It’s still not confirmed as of yet, so it’s possible the 33-year-old Hatton may opt for a nice soft target against a 3rd opponent and not Katsidis. However, if Hatton does face Katsidis on November 24th, I think it’ll be the biggest mistake since his decision to fight Manny Pacquiao in 2009.

Katsidis, 32, will likely be asked to move up two divisions to fight Hatton at welterweight for this comeback fight, because it’s highly doubtful that Hatton can burn off enough weight to get back down to old weight of 140. I think the days of him fighting at light welterweight are history. So that in itself will give Hatton a giant edge in his favor against Katsidis, who doesn’t have the size to fight at light welterweight even. By fighting a guy that is way out of his size range, Hatton might have enough of an edge to actually win the fight. But I don’t think this will be enough. Katsidis is like a mini version of Hatton, only he’s not let himself go in the last three years the way that Hatton has.

Michael Katsidis vs. Ricky Hatton on November 24th

Image: Michael Katsidis vs. Ricky Hatton on November 24thBy Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) will be taking a major risk in his first comeback fight by taking on the tough as nails Michael Katsidis (28-6, 23 KO’s) rather than an easy stiff, which is what Hatton probably should be fighting. The Dailystar is reporting that the 32-year-old Katsidis will be Hatton’s next opponent on November 24th at the Manchester Arena (formerly M.E.N Arena), Manchester, Lancashire, UK. Hatton will probably have a significant weight advantage over Katsidis for this fight. Katsidis proved recently that he’s too small to fight at light welterweight, and you got to figure that Hatton will be fighting Katsidis at 147. In other words, Katsidis could end up moving up two entire weight divisions to take the fight. Maybe with that kind of advantage Hatton can win.

I think Hatton is making a huge mistake if he fights Katsidis. It’s a brave move but stupid as heck to fight this guy. I guess it’s good in a way, though. At least when Hatton gets whipped by Katsidis, he can immediately go back into retirement and not waste time getting his hopes up about bigger fights agaisnt the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Amir Khan and Kell Brook. Katsidis will take those dreams away by thrashing Hatton by blasting him out.
