Hatton, 33, will be fighting the recently knocked out former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-1, 21 KO’s) instead someone with a little more clout like Michael Katsidis. Hatton actually sees the 35-year-old Senchenko as a better fighter than Katsidis, as does many of Hatton’s loyal boxing fans.

Hatton said to Sky Sports News “There were certain opponents mentioned, people like Michael Katsidis and people were excited about him coming, but I think this is a better opponent.”

I totally disagree with Hatton. Senchenko may have held the World Boxing Association 147 pound title from 2009 to 2012, but Senchenko never beat anyone that I consider even slightly good during that three year stretch, including the guy he beat to win the title from, Yuriy Nuzhnenko.

There’s just no quality anywhere in Senchenko’s resume at all and the one halfway decent fighter that he fought, Paulie Malignaggi, knocked him out in the 9th round last April. I’m not a Malignaggi fan at all and see him as just as another paper champion that is continuing the recent tradition of holding down the WBA welterweight title.

Senchenko defended his WBA title successfully three times, beating Motoki Sasaki, Charlie Jose Navarro and Marco Antonio Avendano. Those aren’t exactly household names. Senchenko never fought anyone that you could dangerous during the time he held the WBA

Here are the fights that will be on the undercard of the Hatton-Senchenko fight on November 24th:

Scott Quigg vs. Rendall Munroe
Gary Buckland vs. Stephen Foster
Sergey Rabchenko vs. Cedric Vitu
Ricky Hatton vs. Vyacheslav Senchenko
Martin Murray vs. TBA
Adam Etches vs. TBA
James Dickens vs. TBA
