GR8 Britain vs. The World: Preview (part 2) Cleverly, Brook and Macklin

By Shaun Campbell: So Nathan Cleverly is back on Sky Box Office after his last thrilling encounter with Karo Murat, which was thought to be the best fight of the night on The Magnificent 7 bill back in September. After stopping the tough German, Cleverly is now targeting a shot at WBO world champion Juergen Braehmer sometime next year. The talented youngster first has to come through the “WBO European light-heavyweight champion” (whatever that is worth) Alejandro Lakatos. The Spaniard has won 31 fights, and lost 5. But the wins on his record do not really fill anyone with confidence that he will have enough to beat Cleverly.

Matthew Macklin vs. Shalva Jomardashvili prediction

Image: Matthew Macklin vs. Shalva Jomardashvili predictionBy William Mackay: Middleweight Matthew Macklin (26-2, 18 KO’s) will be taking on little known Georgian Shalva Jomardashvili (27-2-1, 19 KO’s) for the vacant European Boxing Union (EBU) middleweight title on Saturday in Frank Warren’s Magnificent Seven card at the LG Arena, in Birmingham.

Macklin, 28, was supposed to be fighting Darren Barker. However, Barker was injured, and instead of dropping out of the card, a replacement opponent was found for Macklin in the 23-year-old little known Jomardashvili. I’ve never seen him fight, so it’s hard to know how well Macklin will do against him.

macklin3434By Steven Wain: Matthew Macklin (25-2-18 KO’s) captured the vacant European Middleweight title last night at the Manchester Velodrome, with a devastating first round TKO win over Amin Asikainen (26-3-17 KO’s).
