Hatton (39-4-2 15 KOs) who won the belt with a convincing win over Gianluca Branco, is looking at a possible rematch with Lovemore N’Dou after the pair fought to a draw last year. However, “Magic” Matthew will be looking at other big names should he successfully defend his title against Nuzhnenko.

By Sean McDaniel: European Boxing Union (EBU) welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (39-4-2, 15 KO’s) is hoping to get a world title shot in the near future if he can get by his next opponent former WBA interim welterweight champion Yuriy Nuzhnenko (30-1-1, 14 KO’s) on July 16th at the Bolton Arena, Bolton, Lancashire. This will be Hatton’s first title defense of his EBU title, which he won by beating Gianluca Branco in March in a 12 round decision victory.
Malignaggi to move up to welterweight, could fight Matthew Hatton
By Jason Kim: Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (27-4, 5 KO’s) is contemplating a move up to the welterweight division where he’s thinking about fighting in Italy against the EBU welterweight champion, a position currently held by Matthew Hatton (39-4-2, 15 KO’s), the brother of Ricky Hatton. In an article at ESPN, the 29-year-old Malignaggi says “Now that I need a fight for my comeback, why not do it in Italy? I know a lot of people want to see me fight in Italy. This would be a chance for people there to see me live. Maybe I can get the Italian welterweight title, make it interesting.”

By Sean McDaniel: Matthew Hatton (38-4-2, 15 KO’s), the younger 28-year-old brother of former light welterweight and welterweight champion Ricky Hatton, doesn’t see the huge interest from Ricky for boxing right now. In article at The Sun, Matthew Hatton says “Ricky said he was going to fight again and he believed that he would, but everyone is entitled to change their mind. He’s never said anything to me, but I could tell when I saw him in the gym that the spark wasn’t there. It is a very, very hard sport and if your hearts not in it, it can be even more dangerous.” Ricky Hatton is reportedly poised to retire from boxing.

Will Matthew Hatton be next for Mayweather?
By William Mackay: I don’t know about you, but I’ve pretty much given up on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight. I don’t think it’s going to happen the way things are looking. Neither of these two fighters appears to be close to giving in and coming to an agreement about the drug testing. Mayweather wants random blood testing all the way through the training period up through the 30 days before the fight, whereas Pacquiao wants the blood testing to stop at 30 days before fight.
