By Sean McDaniel: EBU welterweight champion Matthew Hatton thinks his brother Ricky Hatton can come to terms with his loss to Manny Pacquiao and have a good retirement as long as he can forget the defeat and move on with his life. Ricky has been unhappy since being crushed by Pacquiao a year ago in a 2nd round TKO loss in May 2009. Despite Ricky Hatton having been stopped previously by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007, the loss to Pacquiao seems to have effected Hatton much more for some reason.

By Sean McDaniel: European Boxing Union (EBU) welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (40-4-2, 15 KO’s) says he might be interested in facing unbeaten welterweight contender Saul Alvarez (34-0-1, 26 KO’s) in early 2011 if Hatton can’t get a title shot against WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko. Hatton, 29, had been hoping to get a title shot against Senchenko recently but was ignored by him. Hatton instead will be defending his EBU title against unbeaten Roberto Belge (25-0-1, 4 KO’s) next month on November 26th at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton, Lancashire.

Alvarez, 20, defeated former welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir last Saturday night by a 6th round knockout and now his promoters Golden Boy Promotions want to see Alvarez back in the ring before the end of the year.

According to the Record, the 20-year-old Alvarez will be facing European Boxing Union (EBU) welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (40-4-2, 15 KO’s) on December 4th, in Cancun, Mexico. Given how wide open Alvarez looked on defense in his last fight with 39-year-old Carlos Baldomir last weekend, I had a feeling that his promoter, Golden Promotions, would continue to match Alvarez soft to keep him from getting beaten.
Witter wants fight against Matthew Hatton
By Sean McDaniel: Former World Boxing Council (WBC) light welterweight champion Junior Witter (37-3-2, 22 KO’s) is making his long awaited comeback since being stopped by Devon Alexander in the 8th round a year ago in August 2009, and wants to go after the EBU welterweight title that is currently held by Matthew Hatton (40-4-2, 15 KO’s), the younger brother of Ricky Hatton. Witter, now 36, never had a bit of luck trying to get Ricky Hatton in the ring, and it’s likely he’ll have problems getting the younger Hatton in the ring as well. Matthew Hatton is coming off a 12 round decision win over Yuriy Nuzhnenko on July 16th, and is currently ranked at number #15 by the WBA in the welterweight division.
Malignaggi splits with promoter, wants fight against Matthew Hatton
By Sean McDaniel: Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (27-4, 5 KO’s) as reportedly split with his longtime promoter Lou Dibella and bought out the remainder of his promotional contract for a reported $75,000, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Apparently, Malignaggi and Dibella aren’t in agreement to where Malignaggi should be going with his boxing career.

By Sean McDaniel: EBU welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (39-4-2, 15 KO’s) will be facing former WBA welterweight interim champion Yuriy Nuzhnenko (30-1-1, 14 KO’s) tonight in a 12 round title bout at the Bolton Arena, Bolton, Lancashire. The European Boxing Union welterweight title is as less importance in this fight as is the chance for the winner to possibly get a title shot against the WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko. That would be a once in a lifetime title shot for the 29-year-old Hatton, and he wants to make sure he doesn’t blow the chance for that fight by losing to the 34-year-old Nuzhnenko tonight.
