Kayode defeats Godfrey

By Jim Dower: Undefeated cruiserweight contender Lateef Kayode (17-0, 14 KO’s) easily defeated Matt Godfrey (20-3, 14 KO’s) by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision on Friday night to capture the vacant NABA cruiserweight title at the Chumash Casino, in Santa Ynez, California. Adamek defeats Grant, but looks horrible

Image: Adamek defeats Grant, but looks horribleBy Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (42-1, 27 KO’s) moved one step closer to getting a nice payday against one of the Klitschko brothers by defeating Michael Grant (46-4, 34 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey. This was a home fight for Adamek, and you could tell by the inflated scores that the judges gave him. Despite the fight looking very close with maybe a couple of rounds separating the two fighters, the judges scored it 117-111, 118-110 and 118-111. The scoring was pretty pathetic because Adamek didn’t dominate the fight like the scores would have you believe.

By Jim Dower: World Boxing Organization (WBO) cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (30-1, 23 KO’s) was much too powerful for American contender Matt Godfrey (20-2, 10 KO’s) tonight, knocking him down three times en route to stopping Godfrey in the 5th round at the Messelhalle in Erfurt, Germany. In the 5th round, Huck came out throwing power shots from the waist and backing Godfrey up to the ropes. Once he had him there, Huck dropped Godfrey with a hard combination to the head. Godfrey got up and as soon as the action resumed, Huck drove him back to the ropes and quickly blasted him to the canvas for the second time in the round. Once again, Godfrey got back to his feet and resumed fighting. Huck then went after him burying him with shots until the referee stepped in and halted the fight.
