By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) isn’t happy with WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) making comments in the media about Maidana asking for too much for their December 11th fight. Maidana’s team sent an e-mail to Fightnews.com, saying that they want Khan to stay out of Maidana’s negotiations with Golden Boy Promotions.

By Tom Bailey: WBA Light-Welterweight champion Amir Khan has agreed to fight World Boxing Association interim mandatory Marcos Maidana. The fight is signed according to the Bolton man’s Twitter account and the purse issue is over and all left is for a selected revenue which will be the U.S most likely Detroit as it has a large Muslim community, Vegas is also being considered a venue. Khan himself preferred fighting in the UK in front of his fans but promoters have pushed the fight in the US as has HBO.

By Joe Mitchell: WBA light welterweight world champion Amir Khan has finally signed to fight his interim counterpart Marcos Maidana after long draw out process that has taken a year to finally sort out. He confirmed this on his twitter page today and the issue of money is now over. It is the fight everyone wanted to see Khan in, and will no doubt be the biggest challenge of his career with Maidana being one of the sport’s biggest punchers and being a quality opponent as well, unlike Breidis Prescott who blitzed Khan is one round.

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) may have the superior hand speed, movement and boxing skills compared to World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s), but what Khan doesn’t have is the chin and you have to have a good chin to beat Maidana. The Argentinean fighter has only been beaten once in his career by Andriy Kotelnik in 2009. And in that fight, Kotelnik took a massive amount of punishment and looked as if he had been run over by a truck.

Rafael says HBO has offered $2 million for the Khan-Maidana fight if it takes place in the U.S.
By William Mackay: HBO has offered $2 million for the WBA light welterweight match-up between champion Amir Khan and WBA interim champion Marcos Maidana if the fight takes place in the United States, according to boxing news from Dan Rafael of ESPN. HBO will pay $1.75 million if the Khan-Maidana bout takes place in the UK. In an article at thesun.co.uk, Khan’s business manager Asif Vali said that Maidana is asking for $1 million for the fight with Khan and that is too much money and that Maidana would have to come down, saying “Sometimes it can be better not to fight.” So in other words, Khan would walk away from $1 million if he had to share the $2 million with Maidana? What’s up with that?

By William Mackay: Before the fight is even signed there’s already trouble brewing in the negotiations between World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) and WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s). According to thesun.co.uk, Khan’s business manager Asif Vali is complaining that the 27-year-old Maidana want’s close to $1 million to fight Khan in their proposed fight on December 11th. Vali says “Amir is just being used as a cash cow. Mention his name and the money goes through the roof. As promoters we have to make the figures work and that means Maidana has to come down. I’m sick that every time Amir’s name is mentioned everything is doubled, quadrupled or multiplied by six times. It’s crazy. Where do they think the money is coming from? They seem to think Amir Khan has a bottomless put to pay out stupid money.”

By William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is looking to put the proposed title fight between WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) and once beaten World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) in Detroit, Michigan, according to boxing news from thesun.co.uk. The reasoning behind this wish on Schaefer’s part is due to the large Muslim population in Detroit to will hopefully shove in droves to watch the 23-year-old Khan fight Maidana. Khan had been hoping to place the fight in the UK where he could fight in front of his adoring British fans. Additionally, the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester and the O2 Arena in London are both already booked up for December 11th, so it’s not possible for Khan to fight Maidana in those venues on that date. Khan wants the fight to be in England.
What good is Khan’s hand speed if he can’t handle Maidana’s power?
By William Mackay: It’s nice that Amir Khan has great hand speed, but if he can’t handle taking huge shots from Marcos Maidana when they meet up on December 11th, what’s the point? Right now, boxing fans are enamored with Khan because of his wins over the feather fisted Paulie Malignaggi last May and his win over the equally light hitting Andry Kotelnik last year. However, Maidana hits a lot harder than either of those guys and he’s not going to fold immediately like Dimitri Salita did in his 1st round knockout loss to Khan last year in December. Maidana will take whatever shots that Khan throws and will stalk and pressure Khan and force him to fight.
Maidana didn’t look all that bad against Corley – He still wipes out Khan
By Scott Gilfoid: After hearing a lot about how bad Marcos Maidana was supposed to be against DeMarcus Corley last weekend, I expected utter garbage from Maidana when I finally got the chance to see the fight. But I was frankly impressed with him. Maidana showed excellent power throughout the fight and should have won the easier than he did if the referee had taken points away from Corley for his constant fouls. I saw a lot of ugly fouling form Corley, such as leading his head, hitting on the break, grabbing Maidana in a head lock and then tagging him in the face.
