By Scott Gilfoid: David Price (21-4, 18 KOs) believes he’s only 3 wins away from the big fights against top guys like WBA heavyweight champion Manuel Charr or Tyson Fury. In the meantime, Price will be fighting this Saturday night against journeyman Kamil Sokolowski (4-11-2, 1 KOs) in a 6 round fight at the Brentwood Centre, Brentwood.
By Tim Royner: Manuel Charr won’t have a lot of time to savor his win over Alexander Ustinov from last Saturday night, because the World Boxing Association has ordered Charr and 44-year-old Fres Oquendo to begin negotiations for a fight, according to Fight News.
By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) is kicking around the idea of fighting for a world title in his comeback fight by challenging newly crowned WBA World heavyweight champion Manuel Charr (31-4, 17 KOs) for his title. Charr, 33, captured the vacant WBA title last Saturday night in beating 40-year-old Alexander Ustinov by a 12 round unanimous decision in Oberhausen, Germany.
By Tim Royner: After years of toiling away as a contender, Manuel ‘Diamond Boy’ Charr (31-4, 17 KOs) finally captured a world title in defeating 40-year-old Alexander Ustinov (34-2 25 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision to win the WBA World heavyweight title on Saturday night the König-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.
By Scott Gilfoid: WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will eventually need to face the winner of tonight’s fight between Manuel Charr and Alexander Ustinov fight.
Ustinov (34-1, 25 KOs) is fighting Charr (30-4, 17 KOs) for the vacant WBA World heavyweight title in Oberhausen, Germany. The World Boxing Association is interested in reducing the number of champions in each division. Part of that plan obviously will involve Joshua, who holds the WBA Super World heavyweight title, fighting the winner of the Charr vs. Ustinov fight.
By Jim Dower: Alexander Ustinov (34-1, 25 KOs) and #4 WBA former world title challenger Manuel “Diamond Boy” Charr (30-4, 17 KOs) will be fighting for the vacant WBA heavyweight title this Saturday night on November 25 at the Koenig-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.
By Gav Duthie: It’s the title that nobody seems to want but it should finally have a home on Saturday night. The WBA regular heavyweight title has been vacant for more than 18 months and after several failed attempts to crown a new champion 40 year Russian Alexander Ustinov 34-1 (25) takes on Manuel Charr 30-4 (17) in Germany this Saturday night to resolve the issue.
By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight world title challenger Manuel Charr and Tyson Fury were involved in a slightly heated discussion on Sunday in Cologne, Germany at the fitness expo FIBO. Charr, 32, challenged the overweight Fury to a fight. The 6’3” Charr got right up to the face of the 6’9” Fury. It looked very theatrical. Afterwards, Fury posted a photo of him and Charr standing side by side, smiling like they were best of friends.
By Jim Dower: The March 11 fight between heavyweights Odlanier Solis and Manuel Charr will not be for the interim World Boxing Association heavyweight title. There was news that the Charr-Solis fight would be for the interim WBA title, but the WBA won’t be sanctioning that fight for the interim title.
The WBA already has a mess with Anthony Joshua fighting Wladimir Klitschko for the WBA Super World heavyweight title on April 29, and Fres Oquendo fighting Shannon Briggs for the WBA World heavyweight title. That fight still doesn’t have a date. There will be two heavyweight champions for the WBA soon.
By Eric Baldwin: Former heavyweight world title challenger Manuel Charr has reportedly been elevated to interim World Boxing Association heavyweight champion, and he’s expected to fight for a world title in 2017. What’s unknown is WHY the WBA made the 32-year-old Charr (30-4, 17 KOs) their interim WBA heavyweight champion, because he’s lost three out of his last seven fights in the last two years. That’s not a good record.
A fighter with a 4-3 record in his last seven fights really shouldn’t be an interim title holder with any boxing organization in my opinion. The WBA has their reasons for putting Charr in that position.
If you’re a Charr fan, the good news is he’s likely going to be a fighting for a world title in 2017 against either the winner of the Anthony Joshua vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight or the winner of the Shannon Briggs vs. Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne clash.
