Roger Mayweather says Floyd won’t be taking two years off and will beat Pacquiao

Image: Roger Mayweather says Floyd won’t be taking two years off and will beat PacquiaoBy Jim Dower: Contrary to the June 2nd YouTube video interview where Floyd Mayweather Jr. stated that he was planning on taking two years off from boxing while at the Make-A-Wish foundation, Roger Mayweather, Floyd’s trainer and uncle, says that Floyd isn’t going to be taking two years off from boxing. In an interview at theboxingtruth.com, Roger Mayweather had this to say to Ricardo Lois about Floyd: “Don’t worry about him [Mayweather Jr.]; He ain’t taking no two years off. He ain’t taking no two years off now. He’s the hottest thing in boxing. His thing is he wants to whip Manny Pacquiao and prove to the world what his a—was on. Floyd ain’t gonna take no year, next year. Two years off. Floyd, right now, he just came off a damn near two-year layoff, so why would he take another two years off? That’s stupid.”

Image: Pacquiao saw the Cotto-Foreman fight as even until Yuri injured his kneeBy Dave Lahr: Manny Pacquiao saw the Yuri Foreman vs. Miguel Cotto fight as an even fight up until the 29-year-old Foreman injured his right knee after slipping on the canvas in the 7th round of Saturday’s WBA junior middleweight title fight at Yankee Stadium, in New York. In an article by Ronnie Nathanielsz at the Manilastandardtoday.com, Michael Koncz, the adviser for Pacquiao, had this to say about Pacquiao’s reactions upon seeing the Cotto-Foreman fight: “[Pacquiao] Thought it was a draw and a very close fight, until Foreman got injured.” There you have it, Pacquiao saw the fight as an even fight at the time of the injury. This is exactly how I and my colleague Chris Williams saw the Cotto vs. Foreman fight.

Is Mayweather running scared of Pacquiao?

Image: Is Mayweather running scared of Pacquiao?By Philip Green: If recent internet clips are anything to go by, it appears that Floyd Mayweather Jr may decide to retire once again rather than lock horns with his Philippino nemesis and recently crowned ‘fighter of the year’ (Boxing Writers Association of America) Manny Pacquiao. While this is disappointing to hear, I am not surprised by the self-proclaimed ‘Greatest of all time’s’ decision to get out with his precious ‘0’ intact, given what I see as his history of cherry-picking and dodging opponents.

Cotto: Arum’s Plan B for Pacquiao

Image: Cotto: Arum's Plan B for PacquiaoBy Dave Lahr: If you were thrilled with Manny Pacquiao’s catch weight fight with Miguel Cotto last November, I have good news for you – there’s an excellent chance that’s the next fight you’ll be seeing from Pacquiao and Cotto. If you’re like me, and sickened by the thought of a pointless rematch between Cotto and Pacquiao, then that’s just too bad because it will probably happen anyway. With Floyd Mayweather Jr. possibly stepping away from boxing for one to two years while he devotes his time to his Floyd Mayweather Jr. foundation, it leaves Pacquiao without an opponent for his upcoming bout in November.

Arum could match Pacquiao with Cotto or Margarito if Mayweather fight doesn’t happen

Image: Arum could match Pacquiao with Cotto or Margarito if Mayweather fight doesn’t happenBy Dave Lahr: In the latest boxing news, Bob Arum, the promoter for Manny Pacquiao, is saying that he’ll look to match Pacquiao up with either Antonio Margarito or Miguel Cotto if the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. falls through. Cotto has the WBA junior middleweight belt and has already been beaten to a pulp by Pacquiao last year. However, Pacquiao is into collecting titles and with Cotto holding the WBA belt, a weight class that Pacquiao has never won a title, it would create a reason for Pacquiao to fight Cotto again. Arum’s number #1 choice would be for Pacquiao to fight Mayweather because that’s where the big money is and the real interest.

Arum says Pacquiao ready for Mayweather fight – News

Image: Arum says Pacquiao ready for Mayweather fight - NewsBy William Mackay: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, 78, says that his fighter World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has agreed to the drug testing and is ready to fight undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. as soon as Floyd makes the decision to fight Manny. In an article at Sportinglife.com, Arum says “I’m telling you now, I’ve had long conversations with him, Manny Pacquiao’s first goal is to get Mayweather in the ring and this whole drug-testing nonsense – I think it was nonsense, but Manny has now agreed. He’s [Pacquiao] agreed, so now that’s not an issue. So now the ball’s in Mayweather’s court and if Mayweather doesn’t fight him, that’s Mayweather’s decision and he has every right to make that decision. If I was Mayweather I wouldn’t want to fight Pacquiao either.”

Mayweather deserves to take a two year break if he wants to

Image: Mayweather deserves to take a two year break if he wants toBy Dave Lahr: I just finished seeing Floyd Mayweather’s “Make a Wish” interview from Wednesday where Mayweather talks about wanting to step away from boxing for a couple of years. You know, I totally agree with whatever decision he takes. Mayweather earned the right to take a break if he wants to after beating Shane Mosley like he was nothing on May 1st. In my book, Mayweather earned total respect for that impressive victory.
