In an interview at theboxingtruth.com, Roger Mayweather had this to say to Ricardo Lois about Floyd: “Don’t worry about him [Mayweather Jr.]; He ain’t taking no two years off. He ain’t taking no two years off now. He’s the hottest thing in boxing. His thing is he wants to whip Manny Pacquiao and prove to the world what his a—was on. Floyd ain’t gonna take no year, next year. Two years off. Floyd, right now, he just came off a damn near two-year layoff, so why would he take another two years off? That’s stupid.”

Let’s hope that Roger knows what Floyd is going to be doing because from the sounds of the interview that Mayweather Jr. made on June 2nd, it sounds a lot like he’s planning on taking one to two years off from boxing. It sounds crazy for Mayweather to take another two year break after recently just coming back from his near two-year retirement but then again, Mayweather just made $40 million for his 12 round decision win over Shane Mosley on May 1st. Mayweather also made millions for his 12 round decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez last year in September.

With that kind of spending cash in Mayweather’s bank account, it’s easy for him to take time away from boxing because unless he blows his money quickly on this or that, he would seem to have more than enough money to last the remainder of his lifetime if he’s smart. The fight that boxing fans really want to see from Mayweather, though, is a fight between him and Manny Pacquiao. That’s the fight that everyone wants to see, but trying to put the fight together has been a major headache because of the blood testing for performance enhancing drugs that Mayweather wants Pacquiao to agree to. Pacquiao recently gave into Mayweather’s demands from their previous failed negotiations by agreeing to take blood testing up until 14 days before the fight.

Mayweather hasn’t said whether Pacquiao’s recent concession will be enough for him to fight him. Some people think Mayweather will want Pacquiao to take blood testing all the way up until the day of their fight. But nothing as of yet has been said about any of this from Mayweather or his team. Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, has been fairly persistent in trying to put together the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. However, he does have his limits and unless Mayweather comes out and says something soon, Arum will be forced to match Pacquiao up with one of his other fighters.

In this case, Arum could put Pacquiao in with Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto or Juan Manuel Marquez for a fight that would take place in November. Pacquiao usually takes three months to prepare for a fight, which means that Mayweather will probably need to make a decision whether to fight Pacquiao or not in the next two months if he wants to have any chance of fighting Pacquiao in November.
