Ariza thinks Pacquiao would have destroyed Mayweather last Saturday

Image: Ariza thinks Pacquiao would have destroyed Mayweather last SaturdayBy Dave Lahr: Alex Ariza, Manny Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach, believes that Pacquiao would have destroyed Floyd Mayweather Jr. if it had been him in the ring with him instead of Antonio Margarito. Using a catch-weight of 150 pounds, Pacquiao defeated Margarito by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision at the Cowboys Stadium to capture the vacant World Boxing Council junior middleweight title. Pacquiao has received a lot of criticism for both fighting at a catch-weight for a title and because his opponent Margarito had only fought once at junior middleweight in the past six years.

There’s no way Mayweather can beat Pacquiao!

Image: There’s no way Mayweather can beat Pacquiao!By Juan dela Cruz: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is undoubtedly the best defensive fighter we have ever seen. He honed his skills through time in several wars above the ring, defeating fighters who come across his path, becoming the darling of the crowd and thus earning him the moniker “Money May” for selling huge PPVs. Yes, Floyd is one of the best of this era, one of the best because there is another fighter who had shown that he is also the best, a fighter who have slain bigger opponents in fashionable (read: brutal) way, a fighter who already cemented his legacy in the annals of the boxing world, and that is Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

Arum thinks Pacquiao-Margarito will get 1.4 million PPV buys

Image: Arum thinks Pacquiao-Margarito will get 1.4 million PPV buysBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is projecting that the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout from last Saturday night will bring in 1.4 million pay-per-view buys, according to the Dallas Morning News. Arum says the Pacquiao-Margarito bout will end up with twice the numbers of the Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight produced last March. That fight ended up with 700,000 PPV buys, which was a drop off of from the Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto bout, which drew 1.2 million buys.

Manny’s power, speed, and skills are possibly the main stumbling block to Mayweather vs. Pacquiao megafight!

Image: Manny’s power, speed, and skills are possibly the main stumbling block to Mayweather vs. Pacquiao megafight!By Juan dela Cruz: It was not the random blood test, nor the purse split nor the legal problems the Mayweathers are facing, that made the negotiations for a mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao failed. In my view, there is only one clear reason, and that was again showed by Pacman in last outing against Antonio “The Tijuana Tornado” Margarito for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title last Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and it was Pac’s power, speed and skills!

Pacquiao is Boxing’s Superman

Image: Pacquiao is Boxing’s SupermanBy Rasheed Catapang: Once the mild mannered Clark Kent takes off his coat, we know the kid gloves are off. Saturday night in Dallas, we learned what feats of destruction such fists are capable of. No, Pacquiao is not Superman. But on the night he handed Margarito his comeuppance, he was closed enough. Was he faster than a speeding bullet? Maybe not. But against Margarito’s movement, he surely was bullet-like. The lumbering giant was being peppered with 6 to 7 hits combo before he could even contemplate mounting an attack – couple that with the fact that he could not hit what he could not see, Pacquiao being in perpetual motion and all. And when Margarito found the luck to actually launch one, he was met with a barrage of missiles whichever way he turns.

Steward doesn’t want Pacquiao to fight Sergio Martinez or Paul Williams

Image: Steward doesn't want Pacquiao to fight Sergio Martinez or Paul WilliamsBy Chris Williams: After watching Manny Pacquiao beat a slow, hand-picked Antonio Margarito on Saturday night by a bloody 12 round unanimous decision, trainer and HBO analyst Emanuel Steward recommended that Pacquiao not fight bigger and/or better junior middleweights like Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams. Steward said “The idea of him [Pacquiao] fighting Martinez or Paul Williams, extremely big guys, it doesn’t fit too well. Big guys that are fast also. I think the excitement right now is in the 140 pound division. That might be where to go. The Amir Khans that are coming up. The Tim Bradleys, and those kinds of guys. He may have to go back to that area. Maybe just jumping up, up, up and up. After awhile, I think he’s plateauing up there.”

Pacquiao beats stablemate Margarito: Will Manny start facing better opponents now?

Image: Pacquiao beats stablemate Margarito: Will Manny start facing better opponents now?By Dave Lahr: Manny Pacquiao beat his fellow Top Rank stable mate fighter Antonio Margarito by a 12 round decision on Saturday night to win the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. Although boxing fans are excited about the fight, you have to put the win in perspective. Margarito was stopped last year by Shane Mosley, and looked bad in his recent fight against fringe contender Roberto Garcia earlier this year. Margarito hasn’t looked the same since he beat Miguel Cotto two years ago. Margarito had a size advantage over the shorter Pacquiao last Saturday night, but Margarito doesn’t use his reach when he fights shorter opponents like Pacquiao.

Pacquiao-Margarito draws only 41,734 for last Saturday’s fight at the Cowboys Stadium

Image: Pacquiao-Margarito draws only 41,734 for last Saturday's fight at the Cowboys StadiumBy Chris Williams: It looks like Bob Arum’s projections of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout drawing 60,000 to 70,000 fans came up a bit short last Saturday night at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. Instead of drawing those impressive figures, the fight only brought in 41,734, which is 10,000 less than Pacquiao’s fight against the obscure fighter Joshua Clottey last March. This is bad news because Arum was so sure that he had made the right move in choosing the disgraced Margarito as Pacquiao’s opponent rather than a safer bet against the arguably much more popular but difficult Juan Manuel Marquez or Shane Mosley.

Margarito suffers broken right orbital bone in loss to Pacquiao

By Jason Kim: Antonio Margarito (39-7, 27 KO’s) took an awful lot of punishment in losing by a 12 round unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s) on Saturday night in a failed attempt to capture the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. It’s too early now to know whether there will be any lasting damage to Margarito that will possibly hinder him in future fights. But what we do know now is that he suffered a broken right orbital bone, which was made worse because part of Margarito’s right eye muscle was reportedly trapped in the fracture and needs to be released.
