Mayweather’s three major strengths against Pacquiao

pacBy Raj Parmar: With just a month away from the biggest fight of the century thus far, the betting odds between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao have shortened considerably after Floyd opened up as about a 3 to 1 favorite over the “Pacman”. With the odds now only 2 to 1 in favor of the man known as “Money”, bettors are feeling good about Pacquiao’s chances to knock Mayweather off his perch as the best boxer on the planet.

This article will take a look at three of Floyd’s biggest strengths as he attempts to fend off Manny on May 2 and maintain his unbeaten record.

1) Chin: I feel that Floyd’s chin and overall ability to take a punch is very underrated. Floyd has been caught with great shots in recent years and has taken them all relatively well. Shane Mosley was able to land his signature right rook against Mayweather in 2010 which nearly dropped Floyd, however “Money” was able to recover within the round and shook the punch off fairly quickly. This same right hook from Mosley sent the iron chinned Antonio Margarito stumbling all over the ring just a year earlier. In Floyd’s last fight against the heavy punching Marcos Maidana, Mayweather leaned forward with a jab and took a huge right hand from Marcos at the end of the third round.

Judah: Roach did nothing as a fighter, he’s not a HOF trainer

YouTube video

By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Zab Judah was hopping mad at Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach because of a recent comment that Roach had made about Judah. When Roach was told that Mayweather had reportedly been getting the better of Judah in one of his sparring sessions, Roach made light of it, saying that Judah was an old fighter and that it didn’t matter.

Muhammad Ali supports Pacquiao in Mayweather fight?

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Chris Williams: Boxing great Muhammad Ali is backing former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) in his May 2nd fight against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ali reportedly likes Pacquiao as a person, and for the charity work he does.

It’s nice that Ali is giving Pacquiao, 36, support for the fight against Mayweather. But it doesn’t mean that we’re going to see a victory for Pacquiao. Since we’re not hearing Ali himself speak about this so-called support of Pacquiao, it’s hard to know whether Ali actually supports Pacquiao or not. It’s one thing to read that Ali’s daughter is saying he’s “Team Pacquiao”, but we haven’t see Ali say it himself.

Roach to be well paid for training Pacquiao for Mayweather fight

roach67By Chris Williams: Freddie Roach says he’s going to be paid well for training Manny Pacquiao for the Floyd Mayweather Jr fight on May 2nd. Roach and Pacquiao met at the start of the training camp to discuss what Roach should be paid for the fight.

Apparently the negotiations, which only involved Roach and Pacquiao, went really well for Roach and it ended with a handshake. Roach, 55, isn’t saying what he’ll be getting paid to train Pacquiao for the fight, but he does say it’ll be the most money that he’s ever received before for any fight.

Pacquiao louder than usual and Mayweather quieter than usual – What’s your take?

Manny Pacquiao(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Babatis Banda: Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have been in camp for a number of weeks now in getting ready for their fight on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Strange as it may sound, but yes, Pacquiao has been the more vocal or at least his camp has been on the more trashing side.

There has been quite some stuff worth noting to the buildup to this fight. In the first place, we have believed that Mayweather really knows how to sell his fights, by hyping if you like, the fight by trash talking and irritating his opposing camp.

Roach: Cotto says Pacquiao is Going to Kill Mayweather

cotto57By Raj Parmar: WBC Middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KO’s) is a common opponent of both Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao and feels that Manny has what it takes to overcome the undefeated favorite Mayweather.

Cotto was TKO’d by Pacquiao in 12th round of their slugfest in 2009 and was outpointed by Floyd in 2012 by a 12 round unanimous decision.
