Pacquiao louder than usual and Mayweather quieter than usual – What’s your take?

Manny Pacquiao(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Babatis Banda: Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have been in camp for a number of weeks now in getting ready for their fight on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Strange as it may sound, but yes, Pacquiao has been the more vocal or at least his camp has been on the more trashing side.

There has been quite some stuff worth noting to the buildup to this fight. In the first place, we have believed that Mayweather really knows how to sell his fights, by hyping if you like, the fight by trash talking and irritating his opposing camp.

We also know that this fight does not need any selling. This is the fight of the century and of cause, one of the biggest matches to ever take place. It is also the richest fight in history of the sport, probably for many, many years to come. Mayweather junior has been quiet, and very quiet.

On the other hand, Pacquiao has touted Mayweather. He has commented over Floyd’s training methods, especially over the wood-cutting part, saying he probably wanted to cook something. On several occasions, Pacquiao has challenged Floyd to stand and fight, in the middle of the ring, I bet in a senseless Rambo style. Pacquiao and his camp have now and then talked about Floyd being in the corner, where he can’t hide and that his demise is already spelt-out.

All we have heard from the Floyd camp is the usual rumblings of Mayweather Sr. He has been correct about his son always and it seems it comes from belief deep inside of him. Floyd Mayweather Jr. himself has been very quiet, as if to say I will do the talking in the ring. It could be out of respect for Pacquiao or indeed fear, as some would love to believe, but he seems to be making sure he leaves no room for mistakes. I know people have trashed Pacquiao on many occasions, they have written him off on many occasions but indeed, there is a reason why this is the richest fight in history and I love it when Floyd recognizes that he must in the best of shape ever. This is a direct challenge to his greatness.

I don’t know if the talking in Manny’s camp is meant to unsettle and put fear in the Mayweather’s, or if it is in itself, a sign of vulnerability. Whatever it is, it better be accompanied by intense and good preparations because Floyd is like no other that Pacquiao has faced. The news we are hearing about Pacquiao skipping camp because of bad leg cramps is really unfortunate and could be the beginning of the end of the great hope. I hope we will not have to listen from Roach after the fight, how the cramps are the cause of a below par performance.

For Mayweather Jnr, I don’t know if his quietness is out of fear. I don’t know if Mayweather is afraid of raffling Pacquiao’s feathers any more than he has already done. Whatever it is, preparation and his usual intense training regimen is the answer to all questions. If you have read enough, you walk into the exam room confident of passing, no matter how rough the exam.

Finally, in my language there is a saying that literally translates as follows…. ‘The ass of the cockerel is usually exposed when the wind blows’. We will wait to see whose gets exposed because the wind will surely
