Will Mayweather break Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record?

1-_DSC8351By Allan Fox: With his big fight against the Philippine’s Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) on May 2nd, unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) will be looking to add his 48th consecutive win of his boxing career when they go at it from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If Mayweather wins this fight, he’ll be within one victory of tying the late great heavyweight world champion Rocky Marciano’s record of 49-0 that he set in September 1955. Former minumweight start Ricardo Lopez (51-0-1, 38 KOs) eclipsed Marciano’s record without a loss, but Lopez’s record wasn’t perfect like Marciano’s.

Roach and his part in the Mayweather-Pacquiao story

Manny PacquiaoBy Babatis Banda: For the skeptics, and all those that could not picture the fight happening, here it is. In a few days’ time we will be discussing the outcome. I can understand why some sections got frustrated and so believed this fight would never ever happen. There were a lot of reasons, some valid, and some very laughable why this fight took so long to be made, but let me not drag everyone back to the arguments that were clearly and mostly exhausted over a period of five good years.

We know that this fight is the richest in history, that there are too many economic interests of which many people may not be aware of.

Leo Santa Cruz vs. Alexis Santiago possible for May 2nd on Mayweather-Pacquiao card

santa cruz677By Dan Ambrose: A mismatch between WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (29-0-1, 17 KOs) and #14 WBO bantamweight fringe contender Alexis Santiago (18-3-1, 8 KOs) is being talked about for the co-main event on the May 2nd undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao mega-fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

There had been talk of Santa Cruz facing #3 WBO Zsolt Bedak, but they’re now looking at putting Santa Cruz in with a bantamweight rather than someone from his own weight class at super bantamweight.

Mayweather-Pacquiao weigh-in tickets will cost $10 and go to charity

Manny PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: What was normally always free will now cost boxing fans $10 to witness the weigh-in between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao a day before their fight on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum suggested that it would be a good idea to sell tickets to the weigh-in in order to help pay for security for crowd control and to have money to give to charity, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

Roach: I wouldn’t be surprised if Mayweather pulled out now

Floyd Mayweather Work Out for the PressBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach sees a scenario where Floyd Mayweather Jr. could pull out of the Pacquiao fight that is scheduled for May 2nd. Why exactly Mayweather would pull out of the fight with Pacquiao is unclear, but Roach seems to think it’s possible. Needless to say, this is a horrible way for Roach to be building up the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. If his idea is to get boxing fans excited about purchasing the fight on pay-per-view, then the last thing he should be doing is saying that Mayweather might pull out of the fight. When casual boxing fans hear about stuff like that, they’re not going to want to dump $100 on purchasing the fight on PPV and wind up seeing only the undercard fighters. Roach needs to think carefully before he speaks because he’s going to turn off the fans if he keeps talking like that.

He feels that Mayweather never wanted the fight against Pacquiao in the first place, and now that he’s scheduled to fight him on 5/2, he might look to get out of the fight.

Hatton: Mayweather will adapt his style and beat Pacquiao

1-33By Chris Williams: Former Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao victim Ricky Hatton is picking Mayweather Jr. to win the mega-fight between him and Pacquiao on May 2nd. Hatton was soundly beaten by both fighters in the past.

In fact, Pacquiao did a better job beating Hatton than Mayweather Jr. did, but of course Mayweather Jr. already softened Hatton up previously by knocking him out before Pacquiao got to him. Hatton thinks that Mayweather’s ability to adapt to any fighter will give him an edge against the 36-year-old Pacquiao.

Roach: Mayweather is in trouble

roach6By Chris Williams: Normally a fighter in his mid-30s has already seen his better days, and it’s rare that you see improvement in their speed and power. That’s why it’s interesting that Freddie Roach, the trainer for WBO 147 pound belt holder Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs), is saying that he’s seeing improvements in Pacquiao’s speed and power from what he’s shown recently in his fights.

Roach is saying that Pacquiao is showing ability that he hasn’t seen in ages. If this is true, then Pacquiao will be resisting the aging process and turning things backwards. Just how far backwards is unclear. I think it’s safe to say that Pacquiao is going to need to turn back the hands of time at least six years, possibly more, for him to beat the bigger, taller, and arguably more talented WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) on May 2nd in their mega fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
