Lucas Matthysse
Angulo-Kirkland, Soto-Matthysse or Katsidis possible for November 5th on HBO
By Eric Thomas: HBO is hoping to televise a huge fight card on November 5th, possibly headlined by a clash between junior middleweight sluggers Alfredo Angulo (20-1, 17 KO’s) vs. James Kirkland (29-1, 26 KO’s) with light welterweight contenders Humberto Soto vs. either Lucas Matthysse or Michael Katsidis winding up as the co-main event. Erislandy Lara also on the card.
Will Pablo Cesar Cano replace Lucas Matthysse against Erik Morales?
By Gerardo Granados: It is not official yet, but according to ESPN commentator Dan Rafael it is a done deal and the unknown Pablo Cesar Cano (W22(17)-L0-D1) ranked twelve by the WBC, will replace Lucas Matthysse. If true it could be a “terrible” mistake to match an inexperienced Pablo Cesar Cano who is only 21 years old, against a savvy old lion like Erik Morales is.
The loss of Mattysse-Morales really hurts the Mayweather-Ortiz PPV card
By Jason Kim: Things are looking awfully bleak for the September 17th Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz pay per view card with the loss of the Erik Morales vs. Lucas Matthysse fight on Thursday with the news that Matthysse was pulling out due to a severe viral infection. The fight is going for $50+ on PPV, and that’s a lot of money for what appears to be only one good fight between Mayweather and Ortiz. Unless a suitable big-named opponent is found to step in and fight Morales, I can see this hurting the PPV sales numbers.
Morales asked Schaefer for Maidana to be the replacement for Matthysse, but was turned down
Who could replace Matthysse, Jessie Vargas or Josesito Lopez?
By Gerardo Granados: It has been reported that Lucas Matthysse pulled out of his fight against Erik Morales due illness or injury, and it is a real shame. The same thing happened to Marcos Maidana when Robert Guerrero injured himself, it seems like destiny won’t let boxing fans enjoy a couple of good fights.
Matthysse pulls out of Morales fight, no word on replacement opponent
By William Mackay: Lucas Matthysse has reportedly pulled out of his fight with Erik Morales that was scheduled for September 17th. As of now, there isn’t a definitive explanation for Matthysse pulling out. Steve Kim is saying it was an illness, but there’s also talk of a possible injury that Matthysse sustained during training that may be the root of cause for the pull out.
Matthysse could be out of Morales fight due to illness
By Dan Ambrose: According to Steve Kim, he’s reporting that Lucas Matthysse has pulled out of his September 17th fight against Erik Morales due to illness. Matthysse was/is supposed to be fighting Morales for the vacant WBC light welterweight title on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz. The Morales-Matthysse fight was supposed to be one of the better fights on the card.
Matthysse will end Erik Morales’ title dreams by knocking him out out September 17th
By Dan Ambrose: Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KO’s) has been living off his old name for the past year during his comeback, and looked pretty average in all of his four fights since staging his comeback last year. Lost his last fight against Marcos Maidana, and I thought he should have lost two others in addition to that one.
Khan looking to fight Lamont Peterson on December 10th instead of Mattysse, Maidana or Prescott
By William Mackay: Just as many boxing fans expected, IBF/WBA Super World light welterweight champion Amir Khan is reportedly in negotiations to put together a fight against his International Boxing Federation mandatory challenger Lamont Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KO’s) on December 10th instead of taking on the much more dangerous Breidis Prescott, who already knocked Khan out, or the powerful Lucas Matthysse and Marcos Maidana.
