Lennox Lewis tempted to make a comeback

Image: Lennox Lewis tempted to make a comebackBy Eric Thomas: Former IBF/WBA/WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KO’s) says he’s tempted to make a comeback after seeing how poor the heavyweight division has become in recent years. Lewis, now 45 and fat, last fought seven years ago and fought a war with a younger Vitali Klitschko, stopping him on cuts in the 6th round. Lewis retired soon after rather than taking a chance with Vitali or his younger brother Wladimir Klitschko. Lewis had lost a step at that point in his career, and it’s hard to think he would be anywhere close to that now seven years later and him carrying around a lot of extra fat on his 6’5″ frame.

Image: Haye says he still plans on fighting the Klitschko brothers, and retire at the top like Lennox LewisBy William Mackay: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) says he still plans on fighting the Klitschko brothers before retiring a year from now when he turns 31. Haye, 29, has a fight coming up against Audley Harrison (27-4, 20 KO’s) on November 13th, but Haye is going to have to move in high gear if he wants to fight both Klitschko brothers before his 31st birthday in October 2011.

Vitali Klitschko says “I sent Lennox Lewis into retirement”

Image: Vitali Klitschko says "I sent Lennox Lewis into retirement"By Dave Lahr: In the latest boxing news, Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko is taking credit for sending former IBF/WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KO’s) into retirement following their fight in June 2003 seven years ago. Klitschko’s face was nearly ripped apart in that fight and he was taking vicious shots in the 5th and 6th rounds from huge uppercuts from Lewis. The referee Lou Moret stopped the bout after the 6th round, thankfully, to save Vitali from taking even more punishment to the face. Klitschko had this to say about Lewis in East Side Boxing’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio program yesterday: “If we talk about the retirement of Lennox Lewis, I am more than sure I sent Lennox Lewis into retirement. Lennox Lewis was smart enough to make the decision to announce his retirement before somebody beat him.”

Is Wladimir Klitschko a bigger puncher than Lennox Lewis?

By Dave Lahr: In watching last Saturday night’s fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Eddie Chambers, I came away from the fight being very impressed with the overall punching power of the 33-year-old Klitschko. I think his power rates near the top of the all time great punchers in the heavyweight division, better than fighters like George Foreman, Joe Louis, Sonny Liston and Rocky Marciano. Perhaps the heavyweight that closest compares to that of Klitschko in terms of power is the 6’5” Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KO’s). Both Lewis and Wladimir are tall heavyweights, with long arms and massive power.

Haye doesn’t think he’ll match Lennox Lewis’ legacy, even if he beats both Klitschko brothers – News

Image: Haye doesn’t think he’ll match Lennox Lewis’ legacy, even if he beats both Klitschko brothers – NewsBy Scott Gilfoid: World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye (23-1, 21 KO’s) wisely admits that he doesn’t think he can match the great legacy of former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KOs), even if Haye beats Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko in the future. In an article at the Daily mail, Haye says “He [Lewis] had that many more years to and much more experience. He was an Olympic Gold Medalist, so it would be tough.” You think? It’s good that Haye is admitting this because it’s pretty clear that Haye won’t be able to come close to accomplishing what Lewis did in his career at heavyweight. The problem Haye is that he just doesn’t enough time, and still hasn’t fought anyone worth mentioning.
